Whatever happened to Mare not wanting to take a cut and him being unhappy??? Did we decide that it was unnecessary thanks to the restructuring of other veteran contracts??? And is Lance Schulters close to signing with someone else... and is there any chance he resigns with us since we have upgraded so heavily at DB or is that just a sign that he is definately out?

I haven't heard anything about mare, but shulters probably won't sign with anyone until training camp. Veterens tend to stay FA's longer. I expect the same from Ty Law, Herm Edwards said the same thing about veterens and Ty Law.

Herm Edwards on Ty Law:
“Knowing him, he won’t sign until July. That’s what he always does. He’s going to wait until training camp. That’s what veteran guys do.â€Â

I've read somewhere (sorry no link) that Lance doesn't want to come back to Miami (Saban make him cry?) but i'm not sure about Mare....He's got it made here, so maybe he thought it wasen't good to pull a Vanderjagt...

Dolphins | More from Saban on Mare’s contract
Wed, 29 Mar 2006 06:13:39 -0800
Jason Cole, of the Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins head coach Nick Saban said the Dolphins have not asked PK Olindo Mare to take a pay cut but are trying to ''restructure'' his contract so he can finish his career in Miami. "I guess what we're trying to do is develop some kind of strategy that would allow some of the players on our team right now to have an exit strategy in terms of their contract so they could guarantee themselves an opportunity to be Miami Dolphins the rest of their pro career, and in doing that not make them sacrifice a tremendous amount relative to what's fair and what they earn. So if Olindo is saying in the paper (that he has been asked to take a pay cut), he shouldn't be. He swears to me he's not, but I know it keeps ending up in the paper," said Saban.

Thanks hof13, that was the article I was trying to remember. I doubt we will hear anything about Mare until camp at which point a restructuring may get announced along the lines in the news report.

As to Schulters, that boat has sailed. We have Tillman, Bell, Jason Allen, Hill, and Cooper already at safety with one or more of the CB's possibly moving back. Saban works extensively with the DB's so the need for a "mentor" is less pronounced than on other teams.

please sign shulters... It would make me feel a lot better about our secondary

Why?

I dont understand why Lance Schulters gets all this love. He's frankly not that good. For every interception or whatnot he made, he blew one in coverage. He must have fallen down two or three times last season for big plays.

There is a good reason why he wasnt resigned, and he's still on the market.

Lance Schulters is a great player. With all the mess that was going on in the secondary, he did a great job. Saying that he blows coverage can be said about any player who plays secondary in the NFL. To tell you the truth there is not a good reason why he still is on the market. By him not being signed does not make him a bad player. There are still players in the free agency market who have not been signed yet. Looking at our secondary at the moment, Schulters would be upgrade the position.

I'd like Schulters back and also Junior Seau in camp to see if he's healthy and is able to go. Junior deserves one more chance. He's a warrior.

No he's not. The guy looked better then he was last season because Miami had a fantastic pass rush. He got a couple of turnovers, big deal. It's not hard to do when you've got a front 7 putting up 50 sacks despite the secondary being not very good.

It's worth noting that Miami sort of spent it's 1st rounder on someone to take over for Schulters, too.

With Renaldo Hill and Jason Allen Shulters would just be a luxury for added depth which we don't really need as we have Deke Cooper,Yeremiah Bell and Tavares Tillman to back them up.Why waste the cap space?Shulters can't tackle worth crap anyway.I like Hill and Allen as our starters. Not to mention that Daniels will be playing alot of Nickel once Will Poole wins a starting job next to Will Allen.
