Scott Linehan is what we needed in a OC

Definately the most impressive play calling i have seen on this team since many moon ago(the dan years..) But this was different and purposefull and well I said it in a early post .. RELENTLESS...That is what i saw from this team and especially the offensive game plan .. No more sitting on our hands and hoping to win .. now we put our foot on the gas and take some chances! To be honest I was hoping this might happen after the vanilla looks we had in pre season .. but dream we should things are not as bad as they seem .. at least for this week .Heres to Lineahans addition to a team that sorely needed some fresh aggresive blood!

Impressive Coaching all around for the Fin's. It's a welcomed change. I love the aggressive style. I'm sooo sick of the run on first and second down philosophy that Wanny had.
It's exciting to watch the offense again, not just the defense.

no doubt man i loved the play calling we had denver off ballance all day......

It was also nice to hear Dierdorf on CBS talking about the touchdown to Booker.. mentioning about how Frerotte saw Lynch cheating up towards the line of scrimmage, spotting the one on one man in Booker and hitting him for the TD. That's what we've been missing at the QB spot. A veteran that can spot those things and know where to take the ball before the snap, not get sacked while trying to make up his mind. I think that too helps the O-Line look better.

i LOVED the playcalling... its been a long time since we've been an "air" offense... the best part was NOT just sitting on the lead when we got it... no more wanny-ish mistakes. if wanny was here we would have been running the ball for 3-and-outs every possession after that second field goal.

i didn't like Gus' weak effort on that 4th and 1 QB sneak though... Gus didn't seem to try, waited too long, then we got a bad spot to boot. we need to work on our "-and-1" plays....

Coaching is what we needed to win games. We had the talent, but we didn't have the coaches. Now we actually have good coaches and that is why we are gonna be an improved team.

True. Saban D was incredible.

Play calling was great and will even get better which should be scary for opposing teams...I predicted months ago in another forum that this is how linehan would start out...with quick passes top help the O-line till they get solid enough as a unit to just dominate....I liked the QB sneak call...I just thought we should have done it from a spread formation. A- for Linehan

Pre-snap reads! Exactly!

I don't know how many times I made the comment on here or another board that Jay Fiedler couldn't read a defense to save his life. Gus can make those pre-snap reads, locate the one on one situations, and exploit them. Especially if they are down the field like that one.

Jay Fiedler, especially under Chan Gailey, went to the line with a predetermined read, and if that guy wasn't open the play was usually a busted play.

Linehan is a breath of fresh air. I'm talking, you've been held under water for 40 seconds and you just got above water breath of fresh air. It was so fun to watch!!

I couldn't agree more about Fiedler and his habit of locking into one reciever or bust type of play. There was a play today when Gus threw the ball out to McMichaels in the flat.. I swear when he let it go it looked like a little floater that you would see get picked off, was a very Fiedler like non-chalant flip... and I screamed NO! when he threw it and then noticed that when Randy caught it, NO ONE was within 10 yards of him... great read/pickup on Gus' part. Now, the key is to build on this. They say a teams greatest improvement is from it's first game to it's second.. here's hoping that holds true.

He called an excellent game. I even liked the pitch out to R Brown on 3 and 1, although it wasn't executed correctly it was a call that shows we are no longer a "vanilla offense".

I love his play selection. Most first down were passes. No more run 1st dn, run 2nd, qb scramble on 3 & 9 for incomplete.
If you go back and look at the big plays, we did the exact opposite of what the Broncos, and probably everyone watching, thought we'd do. The big reverse play was successful b/c they bit on the RB run right play...everyone in the stadium was thinking here comes RB on this one. The TD to RM was successful b/c JT was in there as a decoy, and they bit on him, leaving RM wide open. The TD by Morris was successful b/c nobody expected the fullback to get the carry with RB in the backfield. The TD to Booker was successful b/c they figured we'd go 3 yards and a cloud of dust with a lead at hand, instead we burned them on a go route for 60 yards. Looking at the field of evidence, it's obvious Linehan is acutely aware of what everyone is expecting and countering with the opposite. It's called misdirection. Something we haven't seen in a while here in Phinland (haha...that's funny...just thought of that). Very impressive play calling and equally impressive execution.

Linehan is clearly worth the money they paid to bring him here.
We have seen defensive dominance like this before. We finally have an aggressive head coach to compliment the offensive mind up in the booth.
Linehan did an awesome job both with the game plan and the play calling. Gus started a little shaky, and inaccurate, but Linehan's play calls helped him get into a rythym. It was good to see an offense do so many things the right way, when we used to do so many of these things the wrong way in the past. There were no throw it away deep balls, there was no panic in a collapsing pocket, there was no turtleshelling after a turnover, and there was a great killer instinct.
We can count on our defense, we should now know this. They won't dominate like this every week. But the defensive play today was no accident.
We have a brilliant offensive mind running the offense, and a QB who has shown (if only once) that he can manage it effectively.
If the Dolphins can cut down on the mistakes, continue to improve the running game, get composed QB play, continue to count on this D, there is no reason for us fans not to be very optimistic about our chances this year.
