Well, at 3-7, the Dolphins season is pretty much a wrap. The odds are LONG against us making a wildcard berth, let alone win too many more games. I'm not saying that Saban's first year was a failure. As I would tell my soldiers, failure is when you don't learn from mistakes and don't learn from what doesn't work. What Nick Saban ought to start doing now is calling on those second and third stringers. Put them in, maybe even start them and see what's there to build on. Some of the teams we'll be playing are in the playoff hunt. If these non-starters have what it takes to play in games that mean something to our opponents, then keep them in the off season and use some of our starters as trade bait...trade for other players...trade for spots in the draft. It's going to take a few years, but I honestly believe in my heart that Saban can turn this team around. It's going to be painful for us fans to watch, but in the long run, we'll come out on top.

Any thoughts?

Hoestly I don't think I could stand throwing in the towel like that. You have to play to win. and using a regular season game like it were preseason is just wrong IMO.

I agree. I just don't think fans realized how far down this team really was and how much work lies ahead. No question a quality quarterback might have meant 2-3 more wins at this point, but Saban also needs to build a defense that is currently the oldest in the league. Miami probably has the worst quarterbacks in the NFL and one of the worst starting left tackles. Those are hard positions to find quality. On defense, the Dolphins need virtually a complete overhaul in the secondary, a young quality defensive tackle in the Tim Bowens/Keith Traylor mold, and some good young linebackers. Plus, a number 1 wide receiver has to be found eventually although that is a little further down the list.

why? teams sit their starters to get them healthy for the playoffs...why not sit your vets to give rooks some valuable experience and move up the draft board? its always about whats best for the team. Whats best for a 11-1 team is to sit their starters for playoffs, whats best for a 6-6 team is to battle for a wildcard spot, whats best for a 3-9 team is to get their young guys some snaps (moving up in the draft is just a bonus). I definately would be apauled if we tanked the games or intentionally did poorly for the purpose of drafting higher. But to put the rookies and 2nd year guys in and give them a bunch of snaps and trying to win as best you can while your at it is not bad..now if we sat guys like Zach or JT to give a 6th or 7th rounder who we don't plan on ever starting anyways I would definately agree that is taking a dive sorta.

I mean, I'd definately be a little pissed if I bought a ticket and felt like they weren't trying their best to win.. but being someone who rarely even gets a Fins game on TV (until next year i'm getting the ticket!!!) I would definately want a guy like Roth giving Carter and JT some rest.

It's not a matter of throwing in the towel. Wasn't Nick Saban hired to rebuild this team? Isn't rebuilding the team a long term process? Anyone who thinks that Saban was going to come to Miami, waive his hand and using the Force, instantly transform this team into Champions is very naive. I only suggested this as our season is pretty much over. Give these younger players who aren't starting the incentive to become the starters for next year and evaluate what value some of our veterans may have in trade. Hell, I love Zach, Junior and Jason, but if we have some younger kids that can play as well and we can get something in return, consider it. I'm not saying trade them...by no means am I, but these are some of the hard decisions that coaches and GM's sometimes have to make. How hard do you think it was for SF to let Joe Montana go?
