I've wondered if Saban didn't REALLY want Ronnie Brown last year and spoke of some interest in Alex Smith to get the 49ers to take him. Remember that many people thought Ronnie was the best overall player in the draft. Saban might've had to do something to get some attention diverted from him.

Maybe the same thing is happening with our scouting Quinn? I know we need a QB, but I think Randy Mueller may believe he can get one somewhere other than the first round (based on his track record). With Leinart being a top-3 pick no matter what, teams may have to trade up to get the only other true first-round QB (assuming Vince Young stays at UT and Jay Cutler does nothing to catapult himself into the 1st). Making it look like we'd take Quinn may force some teams to trade up with us, and I imagine Saban wants to stockpile picks.

I'm just as sold on our needing a QB as anyone else, but I'm really not sure I want to spend a 1st round pick on one. I realize it's easier said than done, but there's a certain team that's experiencing a dynasty right now with a 6th-round QB....

No. It's way too early to be positioning ourselves in the April draft. We're still in the information collection stage. I'm sure most teams have been scouting Quinn, even those with QBs.

id imagine its not a bad idea to let brady know that there is alot of interest to help sway his decision

I dont think its a ploy. I think we want Quinn or Leinart in the draft and having them both in the draft makes it a good possiblity we could get one. Theres no question in my mind that we would draft Quinn or Leinart if they were available to us. I think we would have drafted Smith (glad we didnt) if he was available to us last year.

:yeahthat: I think we want him to know that we would love to have him so that he will be more likely to come out.

My thoughts exactly. If Quinn knows he'll be a picked in the first round, he might as well collect on it, because you never know what could happen next year in college.

Or he could gamble, get hurt, have a bad season dand drop... Or look at the flip side, he may be #1 over all. A lot factors in, but knowing NFL teams are interested may help push him to declaring.

anything's possible. But putting Muellar there let's Quinn know for sure that he will be drafted early. In my opinion, this guy is the real thing. I would not mind trading a bunch of picks to get him!

I think you might have hit the nail on the head. If Quinn has interest in the Dolphins, it might help him decide to come out. He knows we desperately need a QB and would be in good position to draft him.

yeah, thats the point imo...I guess saban is thinking we'll have much more chances at leinart or quinn next draft cause we might be inside the TOP 10..and in saban's head (and mine too:D) in 2007 we'll probably be OUT of the TOP 10 picks.... I guess this is more a signal to him: "Hey, we want you"

bottom line, at the same time, if quinn declares for the draft it raises the chances of cutler lasting until the early 2nd

I like the QB from LSU..Great size and can he throw the ball!

Yes, any games would be played out later. Anything done now would be forgotten by draft time. This is legitimate information collecting like you said.

I was confused at first, but then I looked up and down the draft order and I realized that there is a possibility that the Dolphins are banking that the top 4 picks are going to be Houston, Jets, San Fran, and Green Bay. In other words, teams that won't be looking for QB's. With this order, which is the current order by the way, you are looking at either Ferguson, Bush, M.Williams, and Ngata being the top 4 picks OR (4 willing teams to trade down with). Besides the fact that we need to try to win every game in order to develop a winning attitude and to develop and/or figure out who stays and who goes next season...Mueller is probably banking that we may be able to lure either San Fran or Green Bay to to take our #10 or so, R.Williams(since they barely just missed Bush) and a M.Booker for their pick and nab Leinart or Quinn OR maybe he is trying to lower P.Rivers value and drive San Diego's price down by adding quality QBs to the market. The latter being the most probable scenario. At the end, I'm still a little confused. Also, we still actually have a chance to win the division with everyone injured in the AFC east.
