Offense: On offense look for Stephen Davis to get a lot of carries. Jake Delhome wont throw many passes. However if you cheat 8 or 9 men in the box Steve Smith or Keary Colbert can become a threat. DeShaun Foster is a good change of pace back for the panthers and you can look for him getting some carries also.

Defense: With out Corey Jenkins out at DT we could maybe run Iso or and Lead. Just not to Peppers side cause he can take over a game. They're line backer are average, with the exeption of exeptional Dan Morgan. They have a young but talented secondary. Rookie Thomas Davis, might be the one player to expose in the secondary if any.

QB- Decent, can make a lot of throws, DONT expect him to takeover a game though.

HB- A combination as lethal as any. They can pound with Davis, then beat you with Foster. If we dont stop them they WILL win this game.

FB- Brad Hoover/ Nick Goings, not really threats of any kind to us.

O-line - This is a talented Run Blocking O-line. Pass blocking is sound but with complex blitzes can be disrupted.

D-line - Even without Jenkins this is still a tough d-line, Peppers will be a force and give our tackle a fit.The less known end on the other side Mike Rucker is also a force just not to the same degree. It will be imaritive to keep them off the QB. I honestly dont know enough about there DT's to give you a run down on them.

LB's - Dan Morgan is fast linebacker. He can get sideline to sideline as fast as anyone. It will be tough to get our gaurds on him, but if we do it could mean great success in the run game. The OLB's are above average. They do their jobs and not too much more.

CB's - Are young and may be confused with complexed routes such as a switch route coming with trips or something to that extent. Have good speed and will play good coverage.

S - Thomas Davis is very talented but young. We may be able to show his youth if we throw the right routes at him. Mike Minter is a solid starter in this league.

ST- Jason Baker is one of the best punters in the league, and John Casey does a nice job kicking.

Defense base 4-3 Cover 2

nice post but Delhomme can take this game over, our run d is good enough to slow down foster and davis but delhomme is still good enough to hurt this d

Well thanks for the post. I'll have to say that we can win this game. If we do then that would put us ahead of the Pats!

We need to worry more about the pass than the run. Our defenses strength is stopping the run. Steve Smith can really hurt us. He scares me more than anyone on the offense. He is extremely fast and will make incredible catches and he gives us serious mismatch problems. If he ends up lined up with Reggie Howard, we're in trouble.
AS for Delhomme: Don't underestimate him. He CAN take over a game. So far this season, he has been erratic, but when he is on he can really play.
Dan Morgan can give us problems running the ball. He roams like Zach. Carolina's defensive line is a HUGE concern against our O-Line. Carolina has, perhaps, the best DL in the league. Julius Peppers is one of the top 3 athletes in the league, IMO and we're going to have to constantly double team him. Mike Rucker can be dominant, especially considering he will be singled up alot more than Peppers.
Deshaun Foster and Stephen Davis is a good 1-2 punch. Foster is quick and elusive and Davis is a bruiser with pretty good speed. We'll have to shut these guys down to make Carolina one dimensional.
Our biggest chance to win is for our D-Line to outplay thier O-line. If we can slow the run and GET PRESSURE on Delhomme consistantly, we have a chance to win this game. I will say this: If we beat the Panthers, we can call ourselves playoff contenders. They are much better than the two teams we've faced so far.

Nice post, jt. Thanks for taking the time. It's good to find real analysis and discussion among so much reactionary crap like what's up right now.

Their ability to run the ball on us is going to be the first determining factor in this game; if we can't stop Davis and Foster, we will lose, it's that simple. Their line being as good as it is will make this the most interesting part of the equation to watch.

The other thing that will determine whether they beat us is how we can neutralize Dan Morgan; he is a difference-maker, and will disrupt our O badly if we don't figure out a way to either contain him or go around him - maybe use his aggressiveness against him on certain plays, amke him overpursue. Added to their great pass rush, Morgan is a load.

I definitly agree that we need to try to use his agressiveness as an advantage but im not sure how to go about it. If we ran counter it would give julius time to get in the back feild. If we ran play action, wait same as last time, julius would be in the back feild. IDK any ideas?

If we show the same blitzing schemes that we used on Sun., it will be a long day. Not only did we blitz the Jets ALOT, we got stuffed almost as many times. Creativity needs to be our best asset on D. I guess that you can say that for the O as well. Like said before, their D line is bas-a$$. We will need to use screens alot more this week (I was shouting that all afternoon on Sun.) Nick will have to pull this one out of his...well...hat, if you will. Lets hope that it happens.

no way i see us winning this game...yes jenkins was a big part of their D but their D is way to good to be called a 2 man defense...the way their O will be at us is through Play Action passes...my prediction

Who's Corey Jenkins?

Also, if you think Will Witherspoon is an average LB, you are in for a world of pain come Sunday

Panthers fan here... Not here to talk smack (not my style)... Just wanted to shed some light on the above post..

Kudos for the time put into it!

On offense... Jake Delhomme can take over a game... He can also blow it... The ebb and flow of this team goes through him... You MUST make him rush his throws... Our OL has been revamped and has looked solid thus far... Wahle, Gross and Mitchell have looked good specifically... Wharton has had one weak game, and one excellent game... Keep in mind that RT in the NFL is new for him, and he could be an area for you to exploit... Look for him to get help from the RB or TE in a pinch... Our TE's are average, and won't generally hurt you unless they're ignored... Steve Smith is a threat for a big play each time he touches the ball... Keary Colbert is solid on the intermediate routes... Ricky Proehl is just steady... You cannot ignore him, or he will make you pay... Stephen Davis is looking fantastic... His YPC isn't impressive, but he's a load of punishment on a DL, and that's what we need from him... Deshaun Foster offers a great change of pace, but has a tendency to carry the ball careless... He's not 'fumble prone', but I'm not happy with it... It's an area that could (and has) end some drive for us...

On defense... Mike Minter is out (as of now) with a calf strain... We don't yet know if Thomas Davis will start in his place, but if he does he could be exploited... He's had a tough start to the season after being bounced between LB and SS all preseason... A TE over the middle may be able to get past him, but be careful, Marlon McCree packs a NASTY punch (just ask Ernie Conwell... *wow!*)... Corners Chris Gamble and Ken Lucas are excellent, provided DC Mike Trgovac turns them loose... When they play 3 yards off the receiver, they're MUCH more effective... Trgovac has a tendency to play them 8-10 yards off... When this happens consistently, we can be KILLED with short outs, and short slants... Watch that specifically... Our LB's... Morgan is great... Brandon Short is solid, but unspectacular... But I think (in the above article) Will Witherspoon is MUCH better than 'average'... He's a machine, in a contract year (did you see that INT against Brady??? Sick!)... Do not underestimate him because he doesn't yet have the paycheck... There are many pundits that argue he's the best LB on the team... The DL... It's just solid... Even in the absense of Kris (not Corey ;-)) Jenkins, we aren't missing a beat yet... Jordan Carstens and Kendall Moorehead have stepped in nicely, as they did all of last year with Jenkins out... Neither is eye popping, but both will make plays... Rucker is dangerous and must be accounted for at all times... Peppers.... Well, he's Pepp... What else can ya say?

Special teams... We likely won't get a kickoff into the end zone all day... Kasay is excellent for FGs and PATs, but his leg strength is fading and if a kickoff reaches the goal line, God put it there... Luckily our coverage units are solid (on both kickoff and punt units)... Our return game is above average, especially for the punt return unit... Steve Smith and Chris Gamble are both dangerous with the ball... Rod Smart is quick, but is also losing a step on kick returns...

That's a pretty fair assessment... Look forward to some football this weekend in Miami! Enjoy!! :-)

Well lets see, where to start. First off their missing DT is KRIS jenkins not Cory. As for Davis at safety, he has been benched in favor of Mcgree. As for running up the middle b/c Jenkins is missing, I would not count on that. Morehead and Buckner are still as good as the donkies and gliders.

Only if they play soft like they did against the Jets.
