Scouts Point Of View

Why would a team that has suffered as long as the fins take a QB in the first round andlet him sit? If he has no grasp of the offense I get it. What would we possibly gain from letting T-hill sit? If we are going to be a mediocre team (no slam, not hatin') then this guy needs to be part of the reason. What is the advantage to T-hills' growth and experience by letting him sit and watch. If he is not the starter he will not get the majority of the reps in practice. If he is not the starter how can he adjust to the game speed of the NFL? These are some of the arguments I read and they do not add up to any logical thinkning. If he sits and we have a winning season how did he benefit? Same goes on the other side of the coun. My main point is if you draft a Qb that is supposed to be the answer and he has a grasp of the offense then you play him. The only reason I would not start him beyond injury is if he did not understand the offense enough to be productive.

No offense.. im not sure if you copied this from somewhere or was just paraphrasing, but I have seen lots of analysts, fans, and scouts continuously say that Martin will be our left tackle. Ireland himself (take the GM speak for whats its worth), say publicly that we are not releasing or trading Jake. Now if that means we move hi to RT is another thing, but IMO that in and of itself would also be a huge mistake. IMO we drafted Martin to be our starting RT. I wouldnt even mind if started him at gaurd, but I think that had everything to do with wether or not we sign Jake Scott.

I made an error while I was typing. People that have been around for a while knows I usually talk it up with a partner of mine thats a scout for the Pats every year. Like I said most of the time his info is solid. He is right more times then not so I like to give peole on this boars a little insight on how other pro teams might see Miami and the draft.

I see you from Jersey - I'm orignally from Eastwick!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm on the fence here.
I agree with you only becasue he wsa drafted at 8. BUT I am not in the club of because he is a top 10 pick he has to start. I think sitting him keeps him protected to get more experience as a QB. This is my opinion. To me that 1 year of playing QB is just not enough. It's not even like he was a back up Qb for a few years and then got his shot. He was a WR prior. The plan is yet to be seen. To me you dont sign a free agent vet (garrad) with last years starter on the roster(Moore) then draft a QB at 10. Somone has to get cut.
To me we will know the plan right around the mid of pre-season. If moore or Garrard is cut then T-hill is starting. If neither of them is cut t-hill will be wearing a cap all year. me personally, that is not a bad thing. I tend to agree with my boy here.
We dont want to throw the kid out there and risk him losing all confidence.
this is just my 2 cents.

Scouting is all opnion and there will be tons of disagreements. However this dude is very sucessful and he has been right more then he has been wrong over the years.

I agree with you.

I won't question his credentials, as long as I'm to assume you mean "successful" on a professional level (as in, he's a professional scout and has moved up through the ranks). However, I do wonder if he personally scouted all the players he commented on.

Your "friend" sounds like a "rehasher", and a never-been-wanna-be.

Wow, Finheaven d*ck post of the year right there...

You sound like a tampon-pulling-arm-chair-seated-never-gonna-be. Why not save that bile you're spewing for the green spectacled trolls sir?

yeah, Miller doesn't shy from contact, seen the kid put a shoulder in to many safeties and DB's when finishing runs. He's not looking for the sidelines or something... goes down easy? maybe, I don't know, he's not a huge back, but he's very shifty and can get through small spaces with speed.

why are people so hung up on the fact that tannehill won't start day 1? having rookie qb's sit and learn a year or 2 under a veteran is nothing new. that is one of the 2 common negatives people bring up about the pick, the other being the starting qb experience issue. both have little bearing on what he'll become down the line. let him learn full time from guys who know how to develop QBs. we've been waiting well over a decade for a stud qb, now people can't wait 1 more season for this guy to develop?!?!

CK your right

He did not personally scout all of these players. Some players he did see because they fell in his region that he is responsible for scouting.

I´m trembling in excitement over the Vernon comments...this could be HUGE for us!!

Thanks for clarifying. I just thought I recognized some signs in what he was saying that he didn't personally scout all the guys. His opinion is to be respected nonetheless, but this is one thing I keep trying to stress to people about expert opinions. A lot of times circumstances necessitate that the experts talk about things they haven't truly applied their expertise to (i.e. haven't done the research on this particular subject that made them an expert in the first place). I know the feeling. If I get asked a question about a guy on the spot and I haven't done the work, I make sure to let the person know I didn't do a ton of work on the player but I also give some perceptions I have based on what I did see. It happens.

There were a couple of games last season where Miller avoided contact cause his shoulder was hurting so bad. I want to say the Virginia game he was hurting really bad and it was obvious. He wasn't trying to hit the hole and kept trying to bounce runs outside. If you were to scout only that game it would be easy to conclude that he avoids contact and doesn't run hard.

Miller will be the go to guy in this offense or a decoy for Bush. These guys should catch a lot of balls coming out into the flank or will open the pass to down field passes.

ehhh...any scout that says martins a "day one starter at left tackle" isn't someone i care to listen to...
