Scout's take: All eyes on VY

Hopefully the front office learned from the Daunte Culpooper expirement. Just say no to VY.

if you watched the vidoe when they showed the cons on vy, one of his problems is not being able to read a defense. what the hell are we going to do with him when we play the jets and NE. the 2 teams we are chasing have head coachs who have big reps as defensive coachs. if we cant beat those 2 teams we cant make the playoffs and we will be stuck in the middle of the pack for a long time.
That's a very good point. I think if you have Vince Young, though, you go unconventional on offense. You design plays around what he does best with some designed running plays, some wildcat, lots of three and four receiver sets, quick reads etc. He is not a classic dropback quarterback and, honestly, he is misused in that way. Not saying he's the best choice in Miami as ideally I'd want a celebral quarterback with his athletic skills. But he may resurrect his career if Daboll can outcreate the defenses Miami will face.

I'm a big fan of VY, and I think if he was under center with this team, it would be very difficult for teams to handle us given our talent on offense. However, I'm on the fence about bringing him in, because if he can't beat out Henne for the starting position, I'm not sure how volatile he would be in the locker room. He obviously knows that he's far more dynamic than Henne is, and has been far more successful on this level and in college. So how does he handle playing 2nd fiddle? That would be my major concern with bringing him in. But got d@mn, how do you walk away from an opportunity to get such a young dynamic player for next to nothing? I think the risk may be worth the reward.

Well what have we been doing so far that has been successful? How about we try something different to see if it works...sheesh

who is this dynamic player your talking about?

vy is far from dynamic, for his career his stats are as follows

42 passing tds

42 ints

12 rushing tds

36 fumbles with 12 lost

his career passing % is less thab 58%

he only averages 150 yards a game passing with 25 yards rushing a game.

hes the perfect example of being blinded by a gifted athlete

different would be good.

but lets be real if you cant read a defense you are a very limited qb, no matter what physical gifts you have. and were not even talking about the rest of his mental make up

I just think it's funny how everyone says the Dolphins need to find a new QB but as soon as anyone is mentioned, here come 50 people to rip on him.

as far as VY goes, he is better than some and worse than others in a mediocre group of free agent QBs. if they trade for anyone, I would rather have Orton or Palmer

They should rename that video "All eyes on Chris Johnson" by the way.

Biggest concern with Vince Young is that he gets to Miami and faces defenses that aren't deathly afraid of Chris Johnson, does Vince have the strength of character to handle that. My dime says no.

Hell have him come in and play the Wild Cat the dude can run and throw why not! We kicked the Pats butt with it once lets do it again. He does not have to be the starting QB just put him in for a change up. Maybe things work out for him too and the light bulb goes off. Ya never know.

The Dolphins will sign VY, because he wants to be here and management knows they need to take a chance to win in 2011. They might as well fire themselves now rather than spend another season with Henne under center. They didn't take a chance on Mallett because he wouldn't help them win in 2011, but Young is a different story. Of all the FA QB's, he will give us the best chance to surprise people. Yes, he could blow up, but a chance of success with a risk of blow-up is better than certain failure. Also, we know Ross wants a name QB, and Young is the biggest name available (assuming Palmer isn't, at least not for any reasonable price).

He's also been to 2 pro bowls and won rookie of the year, despite never starting an entire season. He also has a 31-17 career record as a starter if I'm correct; Not too shabby.

We can sit here and quote stats all day long, but you and I both know that that's not where football is played (on the individual stat sheet). People list him as simply a "gifted athlete", but there have been plenty of those that have 1) come and gone, 2) hasn't had the success that VY has had. Why is that?... Is he perfect? Definitely not. He has things that needs to be worked on for sure. But besides being a "gifted athlete" he has an intangible quality that can not be coached. This is the same guy, that as a rookie, lead the winless Titans to an 8-3 record in the final 11 games of the season. Remember, he is only 28 years old, and really has not gotten a fair shake in Tennessee IMO. I'm assuming you're a stats buff, just look at his progression as a QB year over year; Progressively better.

Again, I have my reservations about bringing him on board here in Miami. But, I'm also not biased enough to overlook the fact that he is without question a dynamic player whose best years are more than likely, still ahead of him.
