FINALLY had the chance to sit down with my budy thats a scout for the Pat's. I know the draft is an after thought for a lot of you but I figured I'd pass on the info that I get from him as like always.

1. PAT WHITE - Make NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT. The Pats wanted him and was ready to take him in the second. "The playbook is open for Miami" "There is NO WAY to prepare for them becasue you can do so much with the kid. you may not see the same play twice" They have had him graded as the 3rd best QB in the draft. He can make every throw and he is mobil. But dont get it confused he is NOT MIKE VICK. He is not looking to run he is looking to pass and run when needed. He is more like a Steve Young then anything. Pat has the capability to be a productive QB in the NFL. He will have a tuff time adjusting to the game coming from the sytem that he played in but in due time he has NFL QB skills. At worse he is a Excellent back up QB that can come in and play RIGHT AWAY in some special packages. "GREAT PICK BY MIAMI......but don't be suprised if Pat White is the started down there in a year or two casue it COULD happen"

Now this is the Pats view. they have Tom Brady. They dont need a starting QB They need a guy that can be effective in situations and insuracne should Brady go down. A completely different situation then Miami. But interesting never the less.

2. Vonte Davis - "STUD" He is the best corner in the draft by far. he has an attitude but that is more confidence then attitude. Thats a good thing. He take the game seriously BUT you will find a few times where either he takes a play off or he is lax in his coverage. Either way that is not good but the coaching staff down there will correct that. But DON'T BE SUPRISED if he isn not the starter. Eric Green is a GOOD corner. He can play Man 2 Man well, but he has laps in his off coverage and zone. Not sure if he is trying to do to much or just not playing thigs properly. There is an opportunity there for Davis but Green is a good player.

I don have time to write about everything but all in all he thought it was a good draft. He thinks Cam Wake is a B U S T. He told me this way back when we signed him. I didn't want to post it then becasue I didn't want to bust noones bubble. I still took up for Wake dispite the fact that I NEVER seen a single play out of him. Maybe we see something that they don't. We have a Gem......(I HOPE)

Thanks for the contribution. If you could share his thoughts on the rest of the draft class whenever you get a chance, I'm sure a lot of folks around here would appreciate it.

Here is another scout's take on Pat White immediately after the Combine. This is Todd Brunner, who is a scout for the San Francisco 49ers. He runs a blog on the 49ers' official site.

Brunner's Blog said:
From there, I drove up to West Virginia to watch practice. It was especially great to see more of quarterback Pat White in person. Personally, I like him. And I’m not the only one. Around campus they say that “He’s the driver of the bus.”

Brunner's Blog said:
This year I’ll be looking at the quarterbacks and tight ends. One of the quarterbacks from my area is Pat White. I’ve come to like him and I’m anxious to see him do well here.

Brunner's Blog said:
The Combine was good for us this year, but the one thing about the Combine was that it was brutally cold. For me, I’m happy because Pat White, the West Virginia quarterback from my area, had probably the best workout out of any of the quarterbacks. I’m a big Pat White fan so I’m glad to see how well he did.

I would love to hear what he had to say about Seam Smith, Turner, Hartline and Nalborne.

Thanks for the info!

I don't understand how Wake is a bust.

Doesn't he have to play or fail to get playing time before he's considered a bust?

would it make that much difference if he wrote "he thinks Wake is going to be[/] a bust?? same point, he expects Wake to fail.

It'd be the same as saying, "Wake is the greatest pass rusher of all time."

Instead of:

"I expect Wake to be the greatest pass rusher of all time."

More personnel guys' take on Pat White...

4. PAT WHITE West Virginia 6-0 200 4.58 2-3
Started 42 of 49 games, also becoming the first NCAA QB to start and win four bowl games. “He’s exciting,” San Diego GM A.J. Smith said. “Terrific athlete. I know he wants to be a quarterback. He will be carried probably as the last quarterback and will contribute.” Labeled as the “perfect wildcat quarterback” by one scout. Projected at WR by some teams, the position that he committed to play at LSU before the Mountaineers came on the scene. “I’ve known him since he was in ninth grade and used to come to my football camp every summer,” Savage said. “He’s a winner. In ’07, when Paul Warfield went to West Virginia and took a peek at him, he thought he would be a fantastic wide receiver. I always thought he was a little shaky as a passer, but having seen him in the bowl game, the Senior Bowl (where he was MVP) and the combine, I have to say that as a role-playing QB somebody will take a big bite of that apple. My concern is if he is really going to withstand the pounding as an every-down quarterback.” Compiled a passer rating of 99.8 in a spread offense and rushed for 4,480 yards, an NCAA record for a QB. Compared by one scout to Kordell Stewart, by another to Bert Emanuel. Wonderlic of 23.

It was just an opinion and he is entitled to it just like the rest of us on this board. Wake is if nothing more a great experimental pick up. Little invested and the potential for a great return on investment. Time will tell.

If the Pat's wanted White and were ready to take him in the second, why didn't they? They had plenty of opportunities ahead of us.

Probably didn't think the Dolphins would take White at #44. Probably thought the Dolphins were targeting him at #56, if at all.

That was enjoyable.
I'd love to hear the take on the rest of the draft.
When you get the time to type it up (good or bad) I think everyone would appreciate it.

That's ultimately why they didn't take him in the second. They thought he'd stick around another round and if he did great, if not not the end of the world.

Well we all know that scouts are never wrong...well almost never! :chuckle:

If the time comes that Wake sacks Brady...I'm sure someone will remind your buddy of what he said.
