Sean Payton Suspended For Year - Can We Finagle Brees Out of Them?

A lot of NFL teams have bounties or player pools for stuff.

The Saints just got caught. I can assure you that a number of NFL teams have been scrambling to cover their asses for a while now.
Its been documented that lots of teams will pay a bounty of 1,000 dollars or what not to GET A SACK, or a TACKLE ON KICKOFF BEHIND THE 20, not 10,000 if your HIT TAKES A GUY OFF THE FIELD ON A CART AND ENDS HIS CAREER...

I'm willing to bet that a number of other teams also have had injury bounties. Come on, you think it doesn't happen?

At the very minimum, I dont think guys make a career out of it, and actually implement it as part of their system, like Williams did.

I will definitely grant you that. I'm firmly of the opinion that the punishment against the Saints (and especially Williams) was more than warranted.

Williams's bounties pretty much ended the careers of Brett Favre and Kurt Warner, and according to Tony Dungy, were responsible for Peyton's neck injury as well.

Guy's a grade-A scumbag.

In my head the commish is cracking down on player safety in part because it will help the nfl's case in the future when the players of today decide to sue the nfl over lingering injuries. This commish can point to moves like this to point out he was working for player safety all along.

Definitely.. Maybe they came down on Payton too hard, im not sure.. I still think they should have lost 1st rounders and not second rounders.

Wait, do many of you actually believe that the Saints were making illegal hits??? I havent seen one single video of a hit that was illegal or intent to injure a player. And dont tell me, you are talking about a hard hit as being dirty like the Favre and Warner hits? If you are talking about hard hits, are you promoting no more hard hits? Please explain registeedrguy and others alike?

EXACTLY!!! No illegal hits, yet the hardest penalty of all time. I know they were wrong and should be punished. The problem BADdell had is the money exchanging hands and the perceived health/insurance concerns. Don't forget that insurance influence. Of course there are real health concerns involved, but it was all in the rules ON THE FIELD and there are guys hitting guys ILLEGALLY that don't get the punishment they are.

Well, in the Favre playoff game I knew something was up and remember mentioning to my friend, during the game, that they are trying to knock Brett out of the game, so many late hits that weren't called it was ridiculous. Favre is one tough SOB and he was already old.

The Kurt Warner hit was a total dick move and your basic cheap shot. Defenseless player not looking, all he had to do was stand in front of him and Warner wasn't going anywhere. You know that was a bounty hit and was richly rewarded. ( disgusting)

Even if we someone had the chance to acquire Brees, he is wanting $23 million a season which is about 4-5 million more than what Manning is getting paid. We had a chance to get Brees five years ago but that train has left the station and is long gone. Let Brees lie down in the crap in New Orleans. Time to move on.

Well, if ever there was a front office not capable of pulling something like this off, it's us.

there is a rumor that the NFL is investigating a possible bounty issue with the Miami Dolphins. I heard there is a Bounty on any scout that recommends drafting a QB. the longer it takes to draft your recommended QB in the later rounds the more money you make.

STAND IN FRONT OF HIM, are you serious? Yo dont watch football no more.

LOL When does it become a cheap shot when a player is being lazy like Warner was. Every player on the field is getting hit like that and because Warner wasnt ready the hitter is at fault? Are you just being sensative when it comes to quarterbacks? If Warner was a kicker would you have said the same thing? Or you would of said, thats not nice to hit a kicker if he being lazy. This is not equal to a receiver spreading himself out across the field and getting lit up, thats a defenseless player. A player who is just standing in the middle of the field, is being lazy. Kurt Warner said it himself, that was not a dirty hit.

Being prepared and playing hard when the ball is in play, is something we all learn in pop warner league football. If you played football we all been hit like that, because we were being lazy. Has Nothing to do with a bounty.

There was nothing wrong with the hits Brent Favre was getting.
