"Sean Smith getting 1st team work @ RCB while Eric Green works with 2nd team."

*Twatted from Armondo

I know, I know it's still early, and everyone expected it since they are shuffling players around, but damn; this gets me excited.

--Also, we have a new receiver:

James Robinson, a Ft. Lauderdale native who recently played for the Toronot Argonauts. He's 6-3, 193. More info to come.

i know Sparano likes to shuffle guys around, but looking at the whole picture i can't help but think this is a well-earned promotion. i doubt Smith will be taken off the first team for a while.

Well one thing is for sure. When we play good big receivers that can move, Sean Smith will be matched up one on one with them. Receivers like Randy Moss and TO for example.

Regardless if he starts or not, he will see a lot of playing time as we were in nickel or dime for over 50% of the defensive plays last season. Expect that to increase this season.

More and more teams are moving to extra receivers on offense.

This seems to be the most significant shuffling that's happened as a result of how players fared in their first week of practice. IMO, Sean Smith will hold onto the job from here on out.

Another interesting shuffle is that Joe Berger is working 2nd string LG while Mark Lewis has moved over to 2nd string OC. That's interesting to me, if Lewis can show that he can handle RG and OC, that makes his case better for making the 53 man roster.

When teams go to the spread with 3 and 4 receivers, I could see Vontae lined up in the slot early in the season. He is an excellent tackler so if teams decide to run out of it, or run something like a QB draw, Vontae is closer to the middle to make a play on it.

Of course Will Allen was good in the slot last season. But I don't see Sparano and Todd Bowles wanting two rookies on the outside.. So Smith and W Allen on the outside, and Davis and Green on the inside is what I see happening.

But Sean Smith is definitely an outside guy to put on big fast receivers. Put him on the line in press bump and run coverage. Use his freakishly long arms to bump them off their route and stick em.

There's also a possibility teams will motion their big receiver inside to get off of Smith. It should make for a very interesting season back in the secondary. I trust this coaching staff to put players in the proper position to succeed.

I would say Vontea better be ready. Im thinking if the pats arn't having luck with Moss on Smith, Bele will move him inside to get him on Vontae...Either way, IMO our secondary is much improved over what it was last season.

You are probably correct. He demonstrated the ability to be in position for making plays, but I am wait to see how he does with tackling and with run support. This was the number one criticism from the draft.

I think his tackling will be the one factor that may move him down. I don't expect him to lose the job at all, but if it happens I am guessing it will be due to lack of physicallity.

did he show lack of being physical in college?

That was the one knock on him in the draft. As well as people wern't sure he could cover NFL WR's bc of his size....he has proven that part wrong.

Lack of physicallity and tackling were his weakness. I recall one highlight loop I was watching of his where the Wr made the catch, and Smith made what looked like a half hearted attempt to tackle him. Luckily the safety showed up and layed the guy down.
