The Fins gave Green a two-year, $6 million deal in March, but he was picked on relentlessly in training camp and appears to have lost all his confidence. Rookie Sean Smith is locked into the starting right corner job, and Jason Allen will probably make the final 53.

Most of us thought knew this was coming, although the termination of Green's contract this soon was a little surprising. How do you feel Smith will do as our starter, now that this is a reality. I feel he will do well!

Also, is JA really going to make the team? :rolleyes2:

He might be on the team, but at least we won't be stuck putting him on Moss again...I still have nightmares about that.

That was terrible. Is it possible that Nathan Jones and JA can be on the active roster? If not, I don't see JA beating him out.

Just depends if we dress 5 CBs...

I love Sean Smith. He is a freak of nature at cornerback. The sky is the limit for him. I can't wait to see how he handles the top wide receivers that we'll be facing this season.

Well he has shown the desire and skillset to be THAT guy. I think with Allen teaching and mentoring both he and Davis i think we may be set at CB.

To use CK's words in his analysis of the preseason game against the Jaguars: "Sean Smith looked like a man amongst boys." Smith is going to be a good one.

I was among those who believed Vontae Davis would put up a better fight with Smith than he has for the starting corner position. I'll admit, I was wrong and Smith continues to impress me. Though he is still a work in progress, Smith flashes a lot of skill and intelligence, and I think the sky is the limit for him.

My only arguement against Smith starting over Davis was that he is limited (as of right now) as a boundary corner, while Vontae can play the slot AND the boundary. However, Davis still has a lot of fundamental issues to clear up (virtually all of his mistakes are easily coachable) and Miami is very fortunate that they have the luxury of allowing Davis to come along more slowly as Smith makes an awesome ascent up MIA's depth chart. With the release of Green, it looks as if Davis will be able to claim either a nickle or dime position (with Nate Jones getting the other) and now Davis/Smith/Jones (and likely Jason Allen) should get even more reps to further their development.

With Will Allen holding down a starters spot, Smith's rapid development, and better depth (containing promising rookie Davis, crafty veteran Jones, and hopefully an improved Jason Allen), Miami appears to really have a much stronger secondary than a year ago (and that doesn't even take into consideration the additions of Wilson, Clemons, and an improved Culver)!

The Dolphins have transformed the secondary and the DE spots in a year and a half. What an amazing job by the front office. And all the DE's are young with their best years ahead of them, as with some of our rising young secondary players.

There's no need to bring in any free agents or draft anyone for the secondary or the DE spots on the team. Slowly but surely there are less and less needs on the Dolphins. We will be a complete team next season in 2010, and may surprise some people again this year.

Then you have the front office changing all 3 QB positions in a year and a half. Again, what an amazing job when you see how much better they are than what we had....

Four-fifths of the O-line has been replaced. They only kept Carey, the only lineman who was worth a damn in 2007 and in previous seasons... They also brought in Fasano who plays on the edge of the line as a TE, so really five-sixths of the front line on offense has been replaced.

Go down the roster and the revamping of this team has been so much fun to watch.

if he plays every game like he did in the first preseason one - absolutely. thought vontae was gonna get that job for sure. but if smith can bring it like that every game - i have zero problem being wrong on that one. hope vontae comes around as quickly as smith has seemed to.

what was the knock on smith that dropped him to the second round? hes such a great physical specimen and seems to have good mechanics...i know there is something i just dont remember
