Sean Taylor is set to go to trial next week he is facing 46 years.
He has 5 years left on a 7 year $18 mill deal he is only 22 years old.
"Joe Gibbs has a hard time relating to the modern type of player" In the words of John Riggins.
Gregg Williams said publicly that he stands behind the player (after the spitting incedent in the playoffs). But Riggins thinks the organization is running low on patience with this "me first" type behavior.
If they release him now the signing bonus is accelerated, but if they wait til June 1, they can pass the cap hit to next year. They may try to trade him now.
I would love to have him on the Phins and wonder what we would have to give up to acquire him?

To me this guy is one of the biggest waste of talent in the league...... ID say stay away at all costs...... talent wise hes amazing but WAy TOO MUCH charecter issues for our team not exactly a SABAN type player.....JMO

He is a criminal. Its a shame because he is one of the best safteys in the league; he remindes me of Roy Williams with his hair on fire. He is a disgrace to the game and he is the worst possible thing that could happen to this team. At least TO does not carry guns

Sean Taylor will either play for the Redskins or the prison team next season. GW runs the D, not Joe. If he says he stands behind him, he stands behind him.

Intriguing but I think I'd pass on him. Too much of a risk IMHO.

i wouldnt mind having him on the team. he can change a whole defense around talentwise. but off the field and on the streets he has to change.

Even if the Redskins were to part with Taylor and he weren't going to jail, Miami would not be the place for him. There are obviously very bad influences on him down there that he needs to avoid.

I doubt any teams take a chance on him before he is acquitted.

I think there is a good chance that he will get around 2 years with very low actual jail time.

If he is released then I doubt we would have a chance to get him(given he gets off the charges) because the asking price would be too high after signing a LB, OL and QB. Which i'm fairly sure we will do.

I figured that Taylor would have copped a plea that would have allowed him to serve some time and be back for camp, but it didn't happen. I think at this point, they're going to trial.

Because Taylor's charges are firearms-related, he is facing a mandatory minimum of three years under Florida law.

Does anyone know? I think there is a minimum 10 years for pulling a gun and firing it during a crime, they may argue it wasn't during a crime, it was the crime.

You forgot to note that only applies if he is convicted of that charge. There is nothing that says he has to be convicted of that offense. Prosecutors and defense attorneys create legal fictions on occasion that have the effect of short-circuiting such mandatory minimums. That's a controversial issue, particularly in Commonwealths like Virginia where legislative intent is king. I can't say how the DA down there feels about such tricks.
