With the Colts and the Saints @ 13-0, it's being talked about all over the sports channels. I got smashed for this the first time I brought it up but I am going to revisit this again but a lil different this time. But I'm still worried that our perfect season is in jeopardy! (Thanks to all of those who defended me by the way:up:)

I know some of you don't care but which team deserves it more if it does happen? Why, would you as a dolphan, want the Saints to accomplish this or the Colts? What aspect of their teams will allow them to go undefeated?

p.s. To all the ones who were around in 72, are these teams comparible to us back then or can you not compare them to us because of the time difference?

I know some of you don't care but which team deserves it more if it does happen?

I would have to say the Colts deserve it more. They have been such a good team this decade but have suffered some playoff losses that have to stick in their craw.
Ended the decade perfect would wash away those distasteful losses.

Why, would you as a dolphan, want the Saints to accomplish this or the Colts?

I really don't want either one to accomplish the undefeated season. If it had to be one I'd go for the Colts. They beat us fair and square. The Saints had major help from the refs. It would really be a kick in the face to have the Saints match our undefeated season when we know they should have a loss without horrible calls going their way in the maimi game.

What aspect of their teams will allow them to go undefeated?

Indy, one word, Peyton Manning. They aren't real balanced but have a great scoring defense (force alot of FG's)
Saints have great balance all across the board

p.s. To all the ones who were around in 72, are these teams comparible to us back then or can you not compare them to us because of the time difference?

I don't think their is much to compare. The time difference and offensive philosphy change in the NFL make it hard to compare these teams. Although if either one makes it they will forever be compared to the 1972 Fins.

My ideal scenario would be the following

We win our final 3 games
Patriots some how drop one and we win the division.
Cincy loses to SD and the Jets giving us the 3rd seed in the AFC

We beat NE or Denver in the Wild card Round
We beat San Diego in the Divisional round to avenge our early season loss
We beat Indy in the AFC Championship to avenge our early season loss and end their attempt at perfect season.
We meat the undefeated Saints in the Super Bowl and end their dreams also and avenge early loss.

Sounds like a script from hollywood. Thats what i hoping for for christmas

Compared to the '72 Dolphins, the Saints & Colts suck and neither will end the season perfect so quit worrying about it.

I agree the Colts have played better, but if there were any city in this country which I would like to see go all the way, it's post-Katrina New Orleans. I would be honored to have them join our '72, and I don't really have any beef with the Saints. Colts were division rivals only a few years ago.

I have a respect for both teams. They both have classy quarterbacks, classy coaches ect. I could handle either of these teams joining the 72 Dolphins a lot more than the Cheatriots. With that said, It is something I hope I never see. I wasn't even close to being around when it happenend, but my dad was and he is who led me to being a Dolphin fan. For those who say look this happened almost 40 years ago let go of it, I respond, look at the Yankees fans. They have won 26 Titles and many of those occured before their dads or grandpas were around. Its not about what we expierience in our lifetimes but what this franchise has developed in its years. The 72 season is a proud part of this organization.

I do, darn cheaters

How can you look at this non TD and NOT have a problem with the Saints being undefated at this point of the season.

If that play had happened at the end of the 4th quarter, I'd be more inclined to agree with you, although I'd say it was more of a lucky break than anything even close to 'cheating.'

But they got themselves back in that game, along with us letting them. And even then, we screwed up the potential game-winning drive at the end more than they stopped us.

Sorry I just don't see either the Colts or Saints running the table....the Saints probably have the easier schedule, but the NFC has some really good teams like the Vikings and Eagles. The Colts are going to rest their players so they could get beat by Jax this weekend.

Yes, i get your drift about the NON TD call being at the start of the 3rd.
But the fact that they ruled a fumble on Bess before the half makes it so distasteful.

so it was two possesions in a row that resulted in 2 TD's

we go from 24-3 to 24-17 just like that.

Usually when they blow a call they come back with a makeup to even it out.
Not on this day. The saints had the refs in their pockets that day.

Maybe we meet them in the Super Bowl and the makeup call comes there.
I'd call it even then. LOL.

The part that burns me is the picture I posted. The linesman is looking right at Sharper fumbling the ball b4 he crosses but he still signals TD. Then no camera angle is available to overturn. SI shows the real story after the game. It really does make you wonder if this isn't all rigged like wrestling.

Hopefully that linesmen is missing from playoff action.

We let both the Colts and Saints off the ropes.
I want to get in the playoffs...
I LOVE the 72 team,I watched them.I want that record to stand
forever,but if it happens,it happens.

Plus, our calling the timeout at the end of the half when they were foolishly lining up to settle for a FG.

Plus, on the interception, let's not forget that the ball bounced off Ginn's hands.

I'm not convinced the Bess fumble was a bad call. It was very close.

Anyway, we gave NO opportunities to get back in it, and like a good team, they capitalized.

p.s. To all the ones who were around in 72, are these teams comparable to us back then or can you not compare them to us because of the time difference?

The players were smaller and slower but it was a much more balanced league with better QBs as a block. It was also a smarter league with more high profile head coaches. The number of routine strategic gaffes this year, and in recent seasons, is bizarre.

But the primary difference is style of play. The '70s was a run oriented decade, somewhat strange because the '50s and '60s had been more pass happy. The rules allowed contact with receivers until the ball was thrown, not merely within a 5 yard window. The Dolphins were masters at taking advantage of that opportunity.

As someone who loves line play and physical football, it was simply a much more interesting sport in that era. In recent years, and particularly this season, I find myself clicking the channel to watch golf or something other than football. There's nothing more boring than two pass happy teams, or two spread teams in college. The only captivating team is Georgia Tech, running the glorious triple option, albeit a modified version that doesn't threaten the sophistication of Oklahoma or Alabama in the '70s.

Peyton Manning is a royal pain in the ***. He's the only player who consistently threatens unbeaten. Some people forget the 2007 Colts were unbeaten until losing to the Patriots in a game they should have won. If the Colts do it, I'll bow to Peyton as perhaps the greatest ever, but mostly I want him to blow a game, and soon, and then get beyond his prime with '72 intact as unique.

I'm surprised at the number of posters who are certain the Saints and Colts both will lose. I'm not in that group. They'll have massive advantage at home in the playoffs. The teams are a comfy 1-2 in the league in YPPA Differential. And the remaining schedules in the regular season are not particularly strenuous. The Saints have two homers, one with joke Tampa Bay, and a trip to already packed Carolina.

I may despise Shaun Swisham for the rest of my life.

no, colts are going for 14-0 this weekend... they have already stated that the starters are in

my brother found recorded copies of almost all the fins games, so i have seen the '72 season even though i'm not that old... that team was a monster... my favorite game was the one that they hung 52 on the patsies and rang up over 500 yards (that team wasnt built to score a lot either)... they had two rb's go over a grand (Csonka and Morris) & Kiick had a ton of yards himself... the d was sick too... they shut out 3 teams during a 14 game season and it seemed like everybody on that d had a pick... if they couldn't destroy you (they did have a few mouse farts [sqweeeeek]), then they would just run you over all day until you gave up... i don't give a **** if the saints or colts go undefeated, my impression of the '72 fins will never change... they were the greatest team ever... personally though i would rather the saints do it, if someone has to, because they are the more complete team... the colts are one blown knee (manning's) away from a 3-13 team... i hate incomplete teams like the colts and steelers (no polomolu= no wins) who get everyone in an uproar every season... every talking head in america gets high on teams that are crap without their best player... the fins lost the best player on the team and still found a way to win... that is the mark of a complete team... miami dolphins practices look like this --> :crutch::crutch::crutch::crutch: but this team has still been impressive as of late and the future looks bright

Definitely the Colts, I have a ton of respect for Peyton Manning. I do believe that whether he goes undefeated this year or not that by the time he retires he will go down as the greatest ever - going 19-0 will only help cement that.
