Question to OZZY or anyone else that writes up camp reports:

I have been curious lately as to how the chemistry is working for the secondary coaches. I've been hearing that Coach Saban is very hands-on with this group, but how does that work for Coach Mel Phillips? Coach Phillips is not only a great coach, but the longest tenured coach on the entire Miami Dolphins staff. He was even on staff when Don Shula was at the helm. This could be his last year if cannot perform his limited role on defense.

The thing that concerns me is that there can always be the cliche' of, "Too many Chiefs and not enough Indians". By saying this, perhaps our DB's are not being effective in camp so far because they're getting overwhelmed with too many techniques or messages from different coaches.

Can anyone observe some of this in camp and get back to me? Just a thought.

You can believe they're only hearing one message and technique.

Saban did said early on that he would have to help mel learn their methology and how he runs the secondary, I think Mel's learning, but I can't help but believe he has invaluable input he lends too, since he's had one of the most respected secondaries in football for awhile. Saban has to know that, and I hope don't overstep him bounds with Mel. I hope the teaching is more what to do in the different defenses, and of course some techniques in those Ds.

I believe that Saban probably made it clear that he would be hands on with the secondary. If Mel was going to have a problem with it, Mel probably would have opted to not stay on as the secondary coach.

You aren't the only one who thinks this. I think that Mel is prob upset because he isn't coaching that much.
