Does anyone else think this? I haven't heard about any efforts to try to upgrade it. We need a playmaker back there. We were a top 5 passing D, but we didn't have too many picks (I think 8?) We need a playmaker back there. IMO it would be a good move to put J. Allen at CB. Our CBs are undersized and he would bring a lot of size to that position. I'm really hoping for Meriweather in the 2nd round. His stock went down since his troubles off the field, but during his junior year the best S in college was a toss up between him and Landry. I would like this lineup this year:

CB: W. Allen/Goodman
FS: Meriweather/Hill
SS: Bell/Worrell
CB: J. Allen/Daniels

Has anyone heard anything about upgrading our secondary? Have we interviewed players? What do you guys think we should do?

Also, mods move this to the draft forum if you think it should be there. Sorry if its posted in the wrong forum.

The secondary was good enough for us to have the 5th best pass defense last year. Now with Joey Porter our pass rush should be even better. We'll be fine.

Not too happy with the secondary in the sense of lack of INT's and giving up the big play.

I think you're missing what their emphasis on defense is. With the Porter aquisition it's clear that they want to rush the passer better in an effort to make life easier on the secondary.

I'm pretty sure that'll be the case until they're in position to or in a need to draft a gamebreaking DB. IMO that'll happen when guys like Taylor and Porter are gone or their impact has decreased sigificantly.

Yeah I agree. Look at Dom Capers' past defenses. Safeties were more the focal point. Seems as though you have four safeties rather than 2 safeties and 2 cornerbacks. Because of the pass rush emphasis you need guys who understand zone schemes and that can tackle and blitz well.

For most of the offseason here i've been looking at the CB spot opposite Will Allen and felt that we need to put a stud at the other corner spot, however after reading more about Dom Capers' system I can see now what our strategy is going to be. We need to acquire as many safeties that can play corner depending on the situation. Jason Allen, Yermiah Bell, Renaldo Hill and Tavares Tillman fit this mold. All that said, I wouldn't be upset if we took Laron Landry. Apparently he's in the mold of Sean Taylor and he would look awful good back there in our secondary with Will Allen, Jason Allen and Yermiah Bell.

Speaking of Safeties and the draft, I would love to pick up that safety from Oregon State - Sab Piscatelli. Everything I read about him I love. He sounds like he plays with his hair on fire, like Zach Thomas. I'd love to get him in the Third round maybe and let him mix it up in our secondary.

For what it's worth, I also like the center from Hawaii. The samoan kid satele. He seems like he would be great value in the third or fourth.

I think if we can take Meriweather with one of the 2 2nd round picks, that would help our secondary greatly.

Let' not forget Daniels was interviewed today and said he played at 30% last season.. he said today that he played in an incredible amount of pain last year ..

He said now, he feels 100% .. After his strong rookie campaign 2 seasons ago, I am really looking for him to come into his own this season .. He won't be spectacular, but he will be solid IMO ..

The guy I can't stand is Will Allen ..

The best player in the secondary is Bell IMO .. he is very good .. Now we just need another safety .
