I am curious to know how Sam Madison has played the last couple of seasons. I know he is nearing the end of his career at 31, but did he play well for Miami last year and in 2004? What are his strengths and weaknesses? Thanks.

Strong man to man defender...

Talks a lot of trash...

Giants will get a solid cover corner and add at least 5 worthless personal fouls to the team immediately!

Pretty dead on. You did forget to mention he isn't the best tackler, but is still a pretty solid pass defender.

He's good nudger though.

I always thought his attitude sucked. I think it rubbed off on the whole defense for a long time. Personally, I'm glad he's gone.

Yeah the same Madison that has took horrible penalties at crucial times for the past couple years. The same Madison that missed tackle after tackle. The same Madison that gets burned on the deep ball for that past couple years. Madison was a very good player but his play has dropped off the past couple years, and we will fill that viod with younger players, or stronger vets.

Eric, if you guys sign sam you will get IMO a vet who will be determined to show everyone he still has something left in the tank. Yes, he lost a step

in the recovery speed dept but he is smart enough to play the angles, has great anticipation of wr routes and uses the sideline to his advantage. He

was just a bad fit in Saban's D. If your scheme is predicated on bump man to man don't be surprised when he's reppin your team in next year's PB. How

soon some of my fellow Dolfans forget -- he was the best corner who ever wore a Dolphins' uni.

Definitely agreed.

People have really dogged him on here the past two years, but he was an elite player at his position for a long time, and still has definite value as a #2 corner in this league given the right system.

I thought he played pretty good myself. He also tackled better last season. He's not the fastest CB in the league, but he knows how to get position.
However, I read theat the Giants were interested in upgrading their secondary because of the way Steve Smith abused them last season. If I recall, Steve Smith abused Madison too.

No respect for Sam? He was the leader of the secondary that helped make the Phins D a perennial power. He was the only constant in that secondary I might add and ask Patrick what kind of influence he had on him. Sam is still better than anyone in our secondary and those useless fouls was on smartelecs like Steve Smith who was being protected by the officials because some people like to see people like him and TO being disrespectful. Sam is still a leader and will be a positive influence whereever he plays.

I don't think that anyone is debating that he was an elite shutdown corner not too long ago, but the fact that I think most people here are agreeing on is that those times are pretty much gone, and while I still think he will show flashes of his former self using verteran savy, he's not at that level anymore. And I also don't agree with Sam being our best corner ever. I think Pat at his prime here was much better than Sam in his best years here.

I would have to say the 2nd or 3rd best corner for the Fins. I'm sorry but Surtain did all the same things AND had better speed and tackling abilities. I think some people believe Sam was better b/c Surtain wasn't at his level the 1st yr they played together but eventually Surtain was better. Plus, I'm really not sure that he was better than Troy Vincent.

Poor attitude, poor tackler, and a penalty machine. Not just PI penalty alot of unsportsmanlike like penalties. I will say this tho, you won't see him get burnt much, but he makes bonehead penalties and can't tackle, well he can tackle... when he wants too.

With all this stuff said, Sam can still help a team win....he is just not the "shutdown" corner he once was. He CAN help a team though and I believe he even started tackling better as the season went on....this shows he has the ability to be a decent tackler but didn't always want to put his body on the line IMO.
