Seems if you're not JJ watts you don't deserve qb money!

Winning will cure all these miserable, uninformed reporters.

They will go into hiding if proven wrong.

We're still going to be $30+ million under the cap next year with Suhs' $28.6 cap hit. We could save a ton by releasing Grimes or Wake if we had to as well. These guys need to get a clue. I wasn't too happy when Tannenbaum was hired but I like the way him and Hickey are working together to build a very solid team. The first thing they had to do was rid this team of all the horrible contracts Ireland left us with. A great draft is what this team needs to finally win another division.

Suh's monster contract ($114 million, with $60 million guaranteed) only works if Suh performs flawlessly over the next 6 years.

The problem with the Suh situation is that there is extra risk that the relationship blows up, because coach Philbin & Suh could easily clash. Philbin emphasizes high character guys, and regularly rails against personal fouls. Suh is known as NFL's dirtiest player, and at one point was the league leader in personal fouls.

With all the character issue blowups in Miami that resulted in dumping players (Martin/Incog, Odrick, Wallace), it's certainly possible that Miami could be caught in a bad situation if things don't work out, and then Miami's faced with a massive cap hit and $60 million guaranteed.

When someone gets that much guaranteed money, they no longer have to cooperate. You have to HOPE they cooperate. After all, firing them would just make them richer, as they can walk away with $60 million guaranteed for one year of work, and sign another big contract.

If Philbin can't coexist with Suh and this team doesn't make the playoffs it will become a moot point. Philbin will be gone in 2016, and if he really wets the bed may get fired mid season. Tannenbaum has not shown a propensity to accept mediocrity. Philbin is on notice.

of course if the Deflatriots signed him for $22 mill a year it'd be called a bargain

It's still a gamble, and an extra risk factor, since you aren't Tannenbaum.

If the Suh & Philbin relationship blows up, but Tannehill & the offense light up the scoreboard, Miami wins at least 1 playoff game, and the stadium is packed, there is no way that Philbin gets fired.

That's why Philbin needs to go next year.

I don't see how Suh could possibly earn his contract. He's making QB money. QBs get paid they way they are because they lead their teams to success. What team success did Suh propel the Lions to? They were the #1 defense last year. They weren't any of the other years. This is not dissing Suh, he's a tremendous player, it's just the economics of the signing don't match the realities of winning in the NFL.

You guys are just going to have to get used to hearing about this because it's not going to go away anytime soon. As a footnote, we may be whatever number of million below the cap next year, but how many players do we have under contract? Our QB, for example?
