Let's make an intelligent discussion and discuss why do you want either Daunte or Joey at our qb position next year while keeping this in mind.

1. Joey Performs well for the rest of the season and somehow gains honors for it.

2. Joey leads up in the playoffs

If that were the case, would you still want Joey as your main guy even though Daunte outperforms him in training camp?

Your opinion!

If Joey takes us to the playoffs, the job should be his at the start of next season IMO.

I would agree with you but regardless, some fans sometimes are not satisfied and would want a guy out there that is more reputable than him such as our incumbent qb Daunte.

Culpepper might not ever play another down of football, nobody knows what's going to happen so it's stupid to discuss what might be, just be happy with what we've got.

There is still a qb controversy. I mean I can understand if culpepper has been with us for years like Trent Green has with the chiefs but thats not the situation here.

The fans will be very divided on this topic, as there are already, but if the current streak continued into the playoffs I would stick with him. I wouldn't know what to do with DC though. I feel that by the time he gets 100% healthy and comfortable with the offense in actual games (practice means little...remember how much better DC was doing in practice than Brees?), he will be getting too old. Joey is younger and we can groom someone under him. I think he has a great attitude and would be willing to do that and would be a great mentor. I do believe that DC will be a playoff QB again, but IF Joey is already at that point, then there is no reason to change it because I just don't see DC as a SB QB that late in his career.

Well....if Joey were to lead us into the playoffs and win a game or two on HIS performance then the case could be made that we actually have a QB competition on our hands. Right now the jury is still out on DC. Did he suck because he was really playing hurt or was he actually exposed as a QB who can't play if he cant run?

I say we let them compete in TC regardless. Joey would have the prior experience w/ this team and DC would have proven PB level talent. If DC slam dunks it in TC then he takes the job.....regardless of Joeys performance (barring...of course, a superhuman Brady level Playoff run by Joey).

And why is there a controversy???

because people keep making posts like this.

Be happy, we are winning, if Culpepper comes back healthy and is strong, it only helps the team. Why worry about something you have no control over?

If harrington keeps playing well, he will have a chance to battle Culpepper next preseason for the job.

No there isn't as long as Culpepper is unable to play there is no controversy, and seeing as how the Cowboys just cut Vanderjagt after paying him 3.5 mil this year and 2.5 mil signing bonus, it just goes to show regardless of how much money is involved if things don't work out teams will cut their losses and move on. So it is likely if things don't work out with Culpepper or with Harrington one of them will be cut and there wont be any controversy at all because only one of them will be here.

At this point in time the only controversy that exists is the one your trying to create with this post.

I think its a bit of a stretch saying he's never going to play again. But his player value is at an all time low right now. He'll probably be released by the Dolphins and picked up by another team as a second stringer. His career is a starter is likely over.

I'll talk about this when DC is back and can cut and is elusive again. I hope that happens because I'm a fan of this team, he's a Pro Bowl QB and we have a rather large financial investment that he CAN and WILL comeback all the way. Let them duke it out when both are fully healthy.

There's no real controversy. We don't have a sure-fire playoff caliber QB on the team. Joey is servicable, but I wouldn't count on him to win me a game if the defense didn't play well. Daunte is washed up, a wasted trade.
We'll wind up having to draft a QB this year or next year.

Its all a moot point until Cullpepper proves he is healthy.

I agree... a little premature to specualte on productivity when we havent really seen what one can do... Joey is the back up right now.. filling in his role and doing what was asked of him,..

Daunte will have a shot at proving himself no matter what we all say here.

we know what Joey can do... Next year, will know what daunte can do.
