Selecting Tannerhill will indicate that the Dolphins are "rebuilding"

Even iff we don't select Tannehill, we are still rebuilding.

Many fans get irked by the term 'rebuilding'. We were rebuilding in 2008 when we won the division.

There is no reason you can't be winning games even if you are rebuilding.

Yes, we are rebuilding on the offensive side of the ball and even on the defensive side of the ball at Safety and Pass Rushers.

I disagree that we were rebuilding in 2008. When we traded for Anthony Fasano & Akin Ayodele and signed Jason Ferguson, Justin Smiley & Lou Polite early in free agency, the rebuilding process was put on hold. When we signed Pennington, the rebuilding process was out the window all together.

Pennington fell into our laps at the last minute, so luck played a part into that.

Even then, Henne was the guy thy were building for.

We were rebuilding in 2008, that rebuild was a failure.

We are rebuilding again now, no reason not to be winning games either.

I think some teams did view Rodgers as a developmental guy. IMO, anytime you have to change a QB mechanics, he is a developmental guy. Green Bay worked on Rodgers mechanics for a couple of years before he was ready.

You are completely right because that was what ended up happening. I guess I was referring to the things we were hearing from analysts and "scouts" prior to the draft. I think up until the last week or so, a lot of people thought SF could be taking Rodgers #1 overall. Again, I get what people are saying, but I view Tannehill as more of a project than Rodgers was.

i don't get this 'rebuilding' thing because You have to build something good first in order to rebuild it.

the dolphins haven't built anything good in the last 15 years.

they're just always building a mess.

No. Selecting Tannehill means that the Miami Dolphins will actually be doing something that they haven't done since the year 1983. MAKING A MEANINGFUL INVESTMENT IN THE QUARTERBACK POSITION.

No rebuilding. The COLTS are rebuilding. The Packers are also drafting a QB this year and I bet it will be a good one. They draft a QB just about every year or two. They are not rebuilding. We just want a good QB. Get us Tannehill or Weeden and we be happy.

Semantics........bottomline....since Marino we have not found a bonafide franchise QB and need too prioritize it.

I don't think you really rebuild in the NFL. With 53 man rosters it is not really possible to rebuild like say in the NBA where you can change your roster dramatically in one year. Selecting a QB when you don't have a franchise signal caller shows intelligence. Now if the Dolphins start cutting or trading all our best players with large contracts like Dansby, Wake, and Long......then maybe we are giving up on the next season.

Ireland thinks he has built a quality roster except for the QB position. He also has Ross convinced of this. The standard is build through the draft year after year, fill-in-holes through free agency and try to keep your best players at reasonable contracts. Nearly every team does this year in and year out. The Dolphin starters next year will be pretty close to the same as last year regardless of whether Tannehill is drafted.

This is true. NFL teams don't rebuild. They reform and tweak. Talent level between you run of the mill players are very close. The impact players make the difference. Even with the impact players there are so few of them and they get spread around; not all dropped on just one or two teams. NFL has wanted parity for years and they have it. Coaching, keeping the right players as long as possible, and one or two guys who bring that extra dimension is what make up the difference between annual contenders and the also rans. Check out the teams who have won the SB in past few years to see examples.

Tanneyhill is another young, unproven player with potential. It may be fair to say we are starting over at one position, but not the entire team. The QB position is a critical position, but the only position that determines wins and losses.

Why get so bent out of shape about the word "rebuilding"? It's just a word. This team is what it is, and what it's been since 2004-- in a good year (2005, 2008) they're slightly above average and either miss the playoffs entirely or get stomped by a good team; in a bad year (2004, 2007, most of 2011), they're one of the bottom-feeding teams in the league. We range from fair to god-awful and have yet to break that cycle. We haven't even had two consecutive winning seasons since 2002-2003 (or even a winning season followed by an 8-8 season), but we have shown quite a penchant for stringing losing seasons together. It's a mediocrity roller-coaster.

Every coach we've had since Wanny has tried to rebuild, mostly because the previous administration had left the team in an awful spot talent-wise. It will be no different this time, although maybe we've finally chosen someone who can actually rebuild instead of just trying to do it.

I think it's pretty obvious that we are rebuilding Tannehill or not. Just look at all the needs. We need virtually every position on offense except for a running back. On defense we need at least one more pass rusher and the secondary is a mess in my opinion. I like the defensive line, Davis is a nice corner, Long is one of the best offensive linemen, Pouncey looks like an he could live in the pro bowl for years to come. So there is some talent, just not enough especially in the AFC East where every team is now clearly ahead of our Dolphins.
