THIS GETS A BIT LONG, JUST ME VENTING ON MY LOVE AND RESPECT FOR MARINO. I WILL BOLD WHATS IMPORTANT.
As a Dolphin fan naturally i would give up a body part if i knew that it meant the Dolphins would win a Super Bowl (I just turned 20, so the furthest i have ever seen the fins make it was the AFC Championship). Growing up a Dolphin fan my team was always above average. I have always said the only difference between the Dolphins (the winningest franchise in 90's) and the Bengals (the loosingest franchise in the 90's), was Dan Marino. Every year people would say this is the year Dan will get the ring, year in and year out the same thing, we knew we were going to be competitive with #13 under center, but every year it ended in heart breaking fashion as the Dolphins came up short (and i believe many times where just simply unlucky).
Every time Dan Marino walked on the field there was a sence of greatness and competitiveness. Dan made it routine and somewhat of an art form to lead the Dolphins down the field for game winning touchdowns. He always had the firey look in his eye and swagger in his walk making the imposible look like childs play. And although he never did win the big game every Dolphin fan knows that Dan Marino is the greatest QB to ever walk on a football field and i know im not alone in saying this, but Dan Marino became my role model. By the way this is before you add in all his charity work he has done which just adds to his greatness in my mind (because of him i have done chairty work for the united way and joined big brother big sisters organization).
My favorite quote about Dan Marino is in the movie "Heart of a Champion" and one of the guys who posts here often has it in his Sig. The quote is by Bill Walsh, he is watching Dan Marino game tape and explaining his unique style and right at the end he says, "Joe Montana was a product of the system, Dan Marino is a system. This always strikes me coming from Joe Montana's own coach, and from a guy who i believe to be one of the best football minds in NFL history.
So watching Dan Marino on Sunday turned into more than just watching football. Some aspects of Dan's life I used to mold into my own as i became a QB in high school and started to realize the joy of charity work (which i recomend to all).
Sorry if that went on too long but found it nessissary and have one more quick story. One of my best friends (a Packer Fan) and i always argue about the greatest QB ever and naturally he argues Favre and i argue Marino (interestingly enough he always says Marino is #2). And one day we were arguing back and forth and most of you wouldnt be suprised he brings up Marino never winning a Superbowl. I then said to him after thinking about it a few times, if you had the choice of the Packers winning the Superbowl or Brett Favre never becoming a Packer what would you choose? He didnt deliberate long and blerted out that he wouldnt trade Brett Favre for any Superbowl. And from then on when we argue about who is better the SuperBowl thing isnt an issue.
This was very incouraging for me. From a fan's perspective (and living in Packer Country) we sometimes feel cheated never getting the oppurtunity to see Dan hold up that Super Bowl Trophy that every football fan knows he deserved. But for me i would choose seeing Dan Marino in Dolphin Uniform (remember i was born 3 years after Dan was drafted and missed the "best" part of his career), even if i knew it meant the Dolphins never winning the SuperBowl during my life time.
So back to my question, Would you (my fellow Dolphin Fans) do the same as I and if confronted by the devil would you also sell a Dolphins Superbowl (during your lifetime), for Dan Marino??
