Here's a list of players who will be in the Senior Bowl on Jan, 24, an there will be reports in the coming week. There are obvious choices for Phans to keep on eye on like White, Shelton, and Perryman. For posters like myself, who do not follow potential picks like many here, who are some of the lessor known guys we should be paying attention to?

A couple of more specific questions.

I've read from ESPN's Walker that we should keep an eye on Canes' TE Clive Walford (6'4 and 263). Opinions?

Last year's top WR picks were great. How do White and Parker compare?

There are alot of players of interest.....besides who you mentioned.

I'll just bring up one that would be a middle round possibility should we not go DT early..............

Carl Davis DT Iowa......he would be great value in round 4.

Walford was having a great Senior year until he got injured. He was a big red zone target for Brad Kaaya, he's a good inline blocker, caught a lot of passes down the seam for the Canes. If I had to guess I would say he's in the 4.75 40 range so not really a seam threat in the NFL but he's a big target for sure. Knows how to get position and wall off a defender to make catches. Doesn't necessarily have a large catch radius as he doesn't normally high point a ball but he's a hands catcher with good hands. He did have some issues with fumbles this year but outside of that he's a good #2 TE prospect.

Wow he can block like a tackle. Seems very discipline staying on his man.

I only watched one Miami game, v. FSU, and Walford tore them up. Someone mentioned a comp to Troy Drayton, I can see that. Maybe a bit faster.

As a Canes fan I have seen a lot of Walford, and he has played very well. Just don't see why Walker is targeting him for the Dolphins with Sims having similar skills.

When looking at players, I will be watching certain prospects for specific skills that fit our team. For example, OL prospects will likely be prioritized for agility, movement skills, and technique over raw size and power. At WR, I'm looking for 2 different aspects. Looking for thhose that have run after catch ability (think Randall Cobb's ability to turn short passes into longer gains versus Hartline's penchant for falling down after every catch), and also looking for bigger receivers that can help in the red zone and high point the ball in the deep game (the opposite of Mike Wallace)

Here is a list of players I will be watching (in no particular order):

South Team
1. Dezmin Lewis (6'4, 210) -WR, Central Arkansas: FCS prospect with good size
2. Sammie Coates (6'2, 200) -WR, Auburn: Big play wideout from a spread system
3. Tyler Lockett (5'11, 175) - WR, Kansas St: Another big play wideout, dominates with quickness rather than size
4. Clive Walford (6'4, 263) - TE, Miami: Big TE prospect with good hands and in-line blocking ability; questions about his speed
5. La'el Collins (6'5, 315) - OT, LSU: Strong OT prospect from a top program
6. Cameron Erving (6'5, 320) - OT, FSU: Showed great position flexibility by kicking inside from LT to C full time late in his senior season
7. Josue Matias (6'5, 322) - OG, FSU: Known as a mauler, but has enough movement skills to get to the second level

North Team
1. Devin Smith (6'1, 198) - WR, Ohio St.: Stock definitely shot up during playoffs; big play WR that will need to develop his route running and feel, but he should test at the high end athletically
2. Ibraheim Campbell (5'11. 205) - S, Northwestern: A personal man crush candidate because he plays for my alma mater, but he always looked like the best player on defense against superior competition; delivers a big blow when tackling
3. Jordan Hicks (6'1, 234) - OLB, Texas: Early injury history, but was arguably the top weakside 4-3 linebacker when healthy this season. Has the run recognition, lateral quickness, and instincts to excel against the run but also stay on the field to cover on 3rd down
4. Ameer Abdullah (5'9, 190) - RB, Nebraska: A nightmare with the ball in his hands and a natural fit for our zone-read system, but he will have to block effectively against bigger linebackers in Mobile to prove he is an every down player

I'm obviously hoping the big names will really stand out and make a statement, but some of the the less-heralded guys will be who I'm really interested in. I'm keen to hear about and watch:

NORTH:
WR Vince Mayle Wash St
CB Eric Rowe Utah
CB Quinten Rollins Miami (Oh.)
RB David Cobb Minn.
DE/DT Owamagbe Odighizuwa UCLA
OG Laken Tomlinson Duke
OT Robert Havenstein Wisconsin

SOUTH
CB/S Senquez Golson Ole Miss
S Anthony Jefferson UCLA
S Cody Prewitt Ole Miss
OT Tayo Fabuluje TCU
OT Ty Sambrailo Colorado St.
LB Lynden Trail Norfolk St.
WR Phillip Dorsett Miami

after the tackle flowers walford is the best prospect the canes are putting out...

I posted some specifics on Walford last night in the draft forum. Impressive player who improves every year, so rare for someone in the Canes program.

I disagree that he doesn't high point the ball. That transformed from a weakness to a strength this season. It was partially because freshman Brad Kaaya has considerably better touch on those passes than his line drive predecessor Stephen Morris, who was awful in the red zone.

Walford is already 23 and will turn 24 early as a rookie. Since he's taken sharp upward steps three seasons in a row he logically doesn't room to greatly exceed expectation in the NFL, like so many recent Canes products. Still, he's a dependable player, one of my favorites from the program in recent seasons. Early in his career he looked so awkward out there but would make the occasional spectacular grab. Everything smoothed out as his career advanced, and even his blocking came around somewhat.

Very popular dedicated guy who takes losses hard. I noticed that about him quickly. No concerns that he'll be goofing around on the sideline celebrating his own stats, while the team is being thumped. The Belle Glade guys often share that tenacity.

You don't think Duke Johnson might be better than Walford?

Duke will be better than Walford. Even if he's just a change of pace back he's a homerun threat and an underrated receiver out of the backfield. He runs with more power, better vision and better balance than Miller saw that in him as a freshman. At 5'9" 206 lbs I'm not sure he's got the frame to add much more without losing some speed and acceleration. He was good in pass pro at the college level but I have my doubts at the NFL level with guys who will out weigh him by 30+ pounds. He's better in pass pro than Miller was when Miller was coming out of Miami. Duke also has that injury history going against him but when healthy he's a baller.

nope...i dont think a 3rd down back is worth more...i have 50-75 grade on walford and 75-100 on duke in most classes...i'm not big on backs that helicopter thru the air on single contact and go down with it too easy...dinged up all the time...

i wouldnt look at duke before the 3rd round...

Walford is the best TE in this class, by a distance, IMO. I'd be happy to have him on board.
