"NewCoachPlease" the irony is truly amazing

Because he wants a new coach, not necessarily a big name coach that's been successful elsewhere. Maybe a college coach, maybe a coordinator, maybe someone who has failed in other places (Nolan) but has yet to hit their stride? Lots of options.

Lots of people in Green Bay hated Ted Thompson and how he handled the Favre situation. Many hated when they hired Mike MuCarthy. People got ticked off when they didnt trade for Moss. Or pick up any free agents. The fans not once booed Mike MuCarthy or Aaron Rodgers, because they love the Packers.

Oh, by the way the Packers won the Superbowl.

OK enough with the Cowher stuff. Cowher was a success because the Sti’lers are one of the best run franchises in all of professional sports. And the Rooney’s aren’t your typical owners. They let their coaches have bad seasons, they don’t overpay for any player, ever, and they deal with problem players harshly. If the Sti’lers weren’t owned by the Rooney’s, they would not have 6 rings and only 3 head coaches in 40 years.

So, sure Cowher is a great coach but you can’t dismiss the organizational support he had. He will not that have that in Miami, or anywhere else for that matter. Do I want him? You bet ! But let’s not start planning the Super Bowl parade route just yet.

Just to add.. I was listening to the Opening Drive and the guy with Bob Poppa (his name escapes me right now) said Dolphins fans are spoiled because of Marino. That we are looking for that next Marino QB and we as fans are being realistic. I wanted to call in and put him in his place as he was 100% wrong. We as fans are not looking for the next Dan Marino; I think we can all agree that we are reasonable and know we probably will not get another Marino. What we want is a capable QB that doesnt make alot of mistakes and will not directly lose games for us. We are not looking for another Marino, we are looking for a good QB, not a hall of famer... I would have called in and put him in his place however I cant stand waiting on hold for these guys.

didn't Cowher win 1 SuperBowl in the 20+ years of being the Steelers coach?

Wait, a 161-99-1 record, including 21 playoff games, isnt good enough for you? He was their coach for 14 years. I think he missed the playoffs only twice in his entire career as a HC.

15 seasons
9 division titles
11 playoff appearances
drafted big ben who has won a few superbowls...

id say that better than any coach we have had aside from shula...

Yea let's give the keys to Cowher. :foundout:

We hired Johnson. The got hotshot Saban, PArcells, the hotshot OC in Cameron.

We've tried every possible combination in an attempt to regain glory?

Can someone please tell me how many SB winning coaches go on to new teams and repeat the performance. There isn't too many.

Sparano may be someone what new... but everyone was singing his praises after we when to the playoffs in 2008. Yea.. he has to learn like Henne has to learn. HAs the last 2 season been disappointments??? Absolutely.. but I still think he deserves this chance.

IF we don't win he won't last the season. Then there is no guarantee some hotshot big name coach is going to come in here and win us anything. History has proven that.

So you suggest we dont try to get a proven HC? You would rather see another Sparano part 2, or perhaps a college coach that cant handle the big leagues?

Actually I joined the site in 2004 and the new coach that I wanted was to replace Wannstedt. Since then we have had plenty of bad coaches but I am not in the club of thinking Sparano needs to go and wishing him bad. I just don't care enough to change my name. Also like another poster said, I would prob be happier with a young up and coming coach if we do end up playing poorly and Sparano losing his job. Cowler just seems like a move that is more based on name then anything else. Pitt is such a good organization.

I'm saying there are no guarantees. Just because we get as "name" doesn't mean anything. The last 10 years have proven that without a shadow of a doubt.

Dolphins13 - Darn straight "the next marino" is what this thread is all about and sadly it is once in a few decades kind of lihtning strike - move on people

Excellent post, and right on about the "lost" nature of this franchise since Shula left.

This post is not about "The next Marino" at all, no matter how some of you want to spin it.

Its about the frustration of a fan who has given his faith year after year for nearly a generation to an organization that has let him down time after time , an organization that seems to not understand the game as its played today under the rules in place. An organization that gives it lip service but doesn't seem to really get that the QB is the single most important position in team sports.

We all want and have every right to expect this team to make a priority of finding a quarterback capable of leading a championship team. I don't believe anyone expects us to luck into another QB of Marino's caliber as a passer, that would be to much to expect. But we certainly expect our QB to throw more touchdowns than interceptions, and we expect our QB to make plays when they matter....not falter.

It seems many fans are now in the annual fog of pre-season illusion, they tell themselves that the Henne of the past will not be the Henne of the future. That the QB who threw the inaccurate passes is suddenly going to get more accurate because of Reggie Bush and Mike Pouncey, they've put out of their minds the lies of the organization that promised all off-season we would have "real competition" at QB. Most of us were under the Assumption that finding a real QB for the future was a mandate of the owner to Sparano, and still nothing transpired. Unless a last minute deal for Palmer or Orton happens it will be more of the same this year.

Every Dolphin fan has the right to be disgusted, or "sick to our stomachs"( as Sparano was over the booing of Henne) of the situation here at QB and the failure of this organization once again to properly address it.

There's a difference between wanting Marino or just wanting 'better'. Marino was once in a lifetime and too much to ask for again, I think most of us get that. But 'better'? Surely after years of this franchise botching the most important position on the team ... we can ask for 'better'. I can't understand how so many people are so adamant about mediocre.

Ask for better don't ask for Marino

The post was about why he booed - you can defend booing all you like - it's is as lame as living in the past

The booing was staged - choreographed - hi jinx and does not capture the spirit of dolphin nation those of you who want expedient QB changes (Orton) can look back at the last decade and see what changing out QBs year after year does to the fanbase -

It alwasy costs a second and sets us back further - you build through the drfat and the FO wasn't thrilled about the selection nor moving up to select one of these Spects...
