i've been watching some tape of his of some games from last year and man is this kid explosive...

i think he has more upside than jerry hughes and i think he's stronger at the poa vs the run...

plus he delivers a nice initial blow that is literally knocking the tackles 3 feet back after contact

what gives with his fall off in sack production this season???

he also is very impressive on his feet...looks very natural as a guy to make a smooth transition to olb

I would disagree with that assessment of Kindle. IMHO he is a one dimensional pass rusher that doesn't show a wide variety of hand use. They only teach 3 pass rushing moves at Texas and the only one he does with regularity is the speed rip. He doesn't redirect inside, nor does he have the ability to run the arc consistently. He doesn't dip his shoulder into the tackle and drive through the contact. Nor does he use his insdie arm to create separation once he has the angle.

Kindle is fine when he can run in a straight line, but he doesn't actually have quick feet. He doesn't open his hips well, and really was asked to come forward at Texas a great deal. Nor does he generate good leg drive, demonstrated by his inability to bull rush consistently.

IMO, he may be a better fit as a 4-3 end in a cover 2 where he can simply get up the field. He does as you say, have a good first step. Unfortunately, at this stage he needs to add a good deal to his game if he is to be successful IMO.

hmmm...i wasn't aware he was a one trick pony pass rusher...that kind of thing gets figured out in the pros

how many rush moves did orakpo use at texas???

Not many, they supposedly only teach 3 down there.

I'm not saying he can't improve. I'm saying he needs to IMO. His hand use is a concern - there just isn't much when he's engaged and he doesn't disengage easily.

most of what i'm seeing with kindle as a pass rusher he's got his hands in the dirt...essentially rushing as an end like we have cam wake doing now...and if he only has one move wake has 3 plus pass rush moves imo...i can see what you're saying about not using his hands all that effectively or enough and while i see him give an initial blow and get a tackle off balance he doesn't seem to like you said show the leg drive to continue with the play and show any real bull rush

but i'm seeing some pretty good looking stuff on his feet when asked to standup...looks like pretty good change of direction and quickness to me...at least he doesn't look stiff to me

Kindle's lack of production was really disappointing. Going into this year I thought he'd go in the late first round or early second, but now I think he could fall to the middle to late third round. He probably won't though because he's going to run pretty fast in a straight line.
