Ok so if you told me we would be in the playoff picture this year at all I would have said you were crazy. But thankfully here we are. And yes Chad Pennington has a lot to do with it. But here come the but: But for all his short yardage accuracy there is a larger problem. The same problem that plagued him with the jets. No Long ball. And you relly need some form of long ball to get to the next level. No I'm not saying its time to bench him but we have to look at the big picutre here. He is not a playoff Qb. you cant keep checking down all the time you have to have deep threat. So what do you think about working henne in on long ball situations? Or cominig up with plays that we can give him some reps and still work on making the playoffs. Chad is a gamer but everytime he throws the ball i find my self praying that the ball just gets to the receiver before it gets picked off. Guess Im just thinking out loud but we need a long ball sooner or later. What'a think.

to be honest i was anticipating some sort of new wrinkle in the offense today involving Henne getting some snaps. I figured we saved the wildcat for the Pats why not utilize Henne's gun when theyre not expecting it. Well i was wrong, but i def. think we could have been successful with this especially b/c of how beat up NE's D is (oh and they just suck too)

I think we are going to see a similar type of Situation play out that happened with the Bengals. they had Kitna start Palmer's rookie year and did great with the team, but they still started Carson his second season. I would have to say that if Henne performs at atleast close to the level of Pennington next training camp he will be the starter.

personally, i think its to soon to be getting on the guys case for that. the man is working damn hard for us and is winning us games. he is making the people around him play better and has given our offense a type of swagger we havent had in years. all in all the guy is a team player.

but ill throw you a bone: i agree and disagree with your post. for the disagree, i do believe he is a playoff capable QB. what he lacks in arm strength he more than makes up in other areas, and im not talking about accuracy or not making many mistakes. im refering to his mastery over the no huddle offense. the man can keep our team moving and keep defenses confused and off balance. as well he has shown the ability to improvise at a moments notice. Chad Pennington doesnt lose us games and in my opinion that(among other reasons) makes him a playoff capable QB.

i dont think anyone can disagree that had we not signed pennington Chad henne would be starting by now. that being said, rushing him out there just to throw the deep ball is extremely short sighted. its not like defenses cant see it when number 10 leaves and number 7 runs in. all they would have to do is say "oh, long ball time, get ready".

for the agree part: on offense we do suffer a bit from having a QB that cannot make all the throws. opposing defenses know chads strenghts and weaknesses and knows he cant hit it long and in the playoffs its much more cut throat. also i believe his inability to pull off jay cutler type bombs is a factor as to why our run offense has been underachieving.

all in all, i would like to see us get more weapons around him, than see what happens.

This was addressed a couple of days ago. 2 QB system won't work. They rarely do. I agree that he does check down to much and I find myself holding my breath when some of those wounded ducks come out. On the other hand, Chad P has brought this team to 6-5 and in contention for the playoffs. If the defense was better we would have 2-3 more wins. He has a very positive influence over this young offense and I like having that leadership in the huddle. If you look at the 4th quarter today, he seemed to be the only player that was calm.

This will be a really tough decision this off season about his future. I am torn about keeping Henne on the bench next year but won't be mad if he starts over Chad P.

Chad P is only signed for 2 years. The real question is do they re-sign him over turn it over to Chad Henne.

Dont misunderstand me. I dont want to see a 2 qb system. I am just talking about dropping Henne in sparingly to use the long ball as a wrinkle. I know without Chad we would be dead last so its kind of a rock and a hard place situation.

But don't you think that when Chad H comes in defenses will know the deep ball or an out pattern is coming? To predicatable. Then to change it up you may have him come in and hand off. But then to me that is a 2 QB system.

What would you think if the brought him in and spread Chad out wide similar to the Wildcat? The Ravens did it with Flacco and Smith and scored on the play.

Why get rid of Pennington? Are you guys kidding? We lose and now its time to replace the QB? I could understand if the offense didnt do crap today, but our offense was not the reason we lost.. It was our defense.. So lets at least wait till our offense blows, to start calling for Pennington head.

no offense but this is absurd. why would you take our leader out of the game and insert a rookie, who doesn't see the field as well, isn't as accurate, cant read defenses as well as pennington and hasnt adjusted to the speed of the nfl. your asking for turnovers, hell you might as well just punt on third down if that is how you want to play it. this team cannot afford turnovers, that just makes no sense.

You guys watch the game yesterday? arm strength had nothing to do with what happened, matter of fact he threw some nice long balls, get off Henne's nuts he has done nothing to merit putting him in during a playoff hunt.

I think C.P had a good game yesterday, and if the Defense showed up they could have won this game. The fins had more points yesterday then I thought they would be able to get.

As far as I am concerned, Penny can play as long as he wants and retire a Dolphin.

Lets see...300+ yards....3 passing TD's....1 rushing TD.

I bet that there are alot of teams out there that would kill for that kind of production from their QB.
