Seriously, psychologically what keeps us coming back?

I love this team as much or more than the next fan, but what keeps us coming back? spending money? going to games? watching games?

Is it the hope that we will see them make amazing strides? do something special? finally prevail? Is this why I enjoy gambling, the 'maybe' or the potential for something great to happen?

It's really hard to keep coming back when it seems as though the fans care more than the head coach and players, yet we're powerless to impact the game.

Are there any shrinks out there that can explain to me why my personality keeps bringing me back to something that consistently makes me miserable? This is easily the most abusive relationship I've been party to in my life, lol.
 
It really is like an abusive relationship. Great analogy. We keep coming back, expecting the Dolphins to change. Next time will be better.

And now we have around 38 weeks to sit back and rationalize why next season will be different.
 
Murphy's law. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.

Murphy really ****ing hates the Dolphins.
 
Im constantly getting beat up, "leaving" for a few days, then coming back and rationalizing it with "they arent THAT bad" and "they wont do it AGAIN."

Guys I really feel like we need a support group. It is just brutal, every season for the past 15+ years. Not sure why we keep thinking it will change.

And truly, for the most part, my interpersonal relationships are pretty healthy.
 
I think most of us remember Dan the Man and always being the playoffs. Even older members remember the prefect season compare all teams to the 1972. All the younger members know is the Dolphins being slightly above an expansion team.

I can only compare it to Green Bay post Lombardi and pre Brett Favre.

I hear ya man...This **** is just ridiculous....It's a bad bad addiction i cannot rid myself of. Every fng yr and I don't understand why nothing changes. Different coaches and players and same ole ****show
 
Because every time miami cleans house they don't clean thoroughly. Whatever is left behind gets swept under the rug and miami ends up tripping over it later. Philbin should have been gone with Ireland. But instead you put a new gm on top of an old coach. Roster needs overhauled too but I'm not getting into that.
 
Well, I can't really answer your question. But I am the same way. Every year since 1988 I have been watching Dolphin games till the last play of the season. And coming back the next season.

This year I decided that if this team doesn't show something I'm basically out. My mark was just make the playoffs. So if they don't which is very likely. I'm throttling back my enthusiasm. Prob won't get Sunday ticket, buy less gear, etc.

I had the same benchmark and will likely be disappointed again. It's been a long 20+ years as a fan and I think I need to emotionally divest in this team. Very much leaning towards the no Sunday Ticket and less-to-no gear next year. As fans, I guess that's the only real power we have.

Directv's service is s*** anyway, for the most part.

Nothing you have already been told twice. I agree though you are a **** fan! I just need to decide what I want to blame you for? I'm on the fence the defense getting gashed or 4 yard passes on 4th and long
 
I've been a fan since 2002 and I've only seen one playoff appearance. I don't know why I still love this team after all the heartbreak
