Seth may be in trouble

Whitley should have been gone the TC after we drafted him, and they should have taken back his bonus money, that was the worst signing of Wanny's era, even worst than Fletcher.

I entirely agree. The only reason that I could possibly figure out as to why he is still in a Dolphins uniform is that he was a draft pick. If we had picked him up off of the Undrafted Free Agent pile then we would have tossed him to the wolves long ago. (Of course with Wanny, who knows...)

The other thing this signing has me thinking about is what's up with Damion Cook? Why isn't he moving into the RG position when Hadnot goes to center? Is he in trouble too, or is this signing just a TC body to get though?

other than Whitley, we shouldn't get overly excited. I know it's exciting that we've got news and we've signed someone who we feel can help the team out but the simple fact is that we needed more OLine just to practice. Saban said it himself. We actually had to cut a practice short the other day because we didn't have enough players on the Oline.

Hey, I'm as happy as anyone we've signed middleton and Ephraim. I've been saying for a couple weeks we needed so sign a C to at least challenge Seth. I"m just tempering my excitement for a bit. A lot can happen the next 3 and a half weeks. My only early prediction is that Whitley get's cut after the 1st preseason game. Likely as early as Tuesday morning. That's about it.

Oh, and while I'm all for Seth being challenged by Hadnot or whoever else for the C spot, Seth should absolutely NOT be cut IMO. And if he is, it shouldn't be until the very last cuts. As I put in another post, he'd make a great backup at both G spots and C. We know he can start it's just that he's not that good at starting. That coupled with the fact he's only signed for 1 yr and cheap also work in his favor. ( of course that could work against him as there would be very little to no cap hit for cutting him. But....I don't think Seth should be cut.

Depth is the key on the O-line....if we are dumping anyone it should be Whitley instead of McKinney. Either way, neither one should be in the starting lineup with the Middleton signing.

Maybe. Or maybe Middleton was brought in to play LEFT GUARD.

the only way middleton plays LG is if Jeno is out for the year. If he was brought in to play LG, it's only as a backup...which is highly likely.

I wanted Middleton when he was in Oakland. The guy is a beast. He is HUGE - his arse is so big the rb's won't see the right side of the defense. He has an attitude and seemed to be a big team guy. He blasted Robbins (Raiders center) when he went awol before the SB. This size guy is exactly what this team needs. You put him next to McDougal and you have 700 lbs of beef! I'd be so pumped if he works out and Hadnot moves to center. Now you are talking about a legit line. I hope he is healthy enough and will have enough time to work himself into shape. I'm sure he was signed because Smith is hurt, Wilson is going, and another backup hurt his knee. They don't have enough guys BUT if McKinney was moved out of center I'd be more excited than if Brown actually decided to sign a contract.

I remember when Seth couldn't beat a very mediocre Tim Ruddy! So that would't surprise me...
I am not happy with Seth's progress. Ruddy was better than mediocre.

Middleton has yet to make this team. James is not quite up to full speed from a health "standpoint". We need another guard to play that position Monday night. If he can plug in and play well all the better. But, he is starting at the bottom and should be looked as a depth player at this point in the off-season.

He only played 17 games out of 32 from 2003-2004. Anyone know why he missed so many games over the last couple of years?

I spoke with my friend who is a Raiders fan....said he was a good player, but had knee problems

Very Nice pickup, he is a very solid pass-blocker, who is also very good at run blocking. That right side is looking more and more ready to run for major yards. At the very least, great backup.

And no character problems with him.He is a criminal justice major.

l love you guy's optimism and i have alot of the same myself, but if middleton is on the opening day roster we struck gold. he's only gonna be 31 in october, which is usually fine for an o lineman ,but the past couple of years the wear and tear have caught up with him and he hasn't been the same. like someone else said he has had knee problems and the question is not can he play an entire season but can he play 2 weeks in a row. that's why he was so readily available. but anyway, lets hope and pray for the best and if he does pan out then we did strike gold. in any event, anything is better than mckinney or whitley sniffing playing time.

I will assume he had to pass a physical before they signed him....That doesn't mean he won't get hurt during TC though.
