My brother and I have a debate going about future QBs for the team. I hold that we need to trade up for one of the top 3 QBs in the draft. Lienhart, Young, Quinn(who i am high on). He feels that we have already set up the parameters for a trade with San Diego. The jist of his thinking is: we have already sent them a 4th round pick(Lemon-feely trade), Chargers will win more games than us and will pick later, and that they will keep Brees. His thinking is that we will send them our first round pick(and maybe a pick next year) and a 2nd or later round pick(adding that to the 4th we already sent them) this year for Phillip Rivers. I dont really agree, but the Lemon trade really made no sence unless we were so high on Lemon and just desperatly trying to get rid of Feely.
I would really like your opinions on this subject.

from what i understand the FO was high on lemon and feel they got the better of the SD backups im sure they also liked getting feeleys salary out of here....and id trade up for a QB...i dont even know if id send a 1for rivers maybe a 1 for rivers and there 2.

I think that deal with San Diego was just to cut Feeley's salary and get rid of him. I dont think it had anything to do with future considerations for a trade. I dont think teams would trust each other enough to do something like that. I also don't think we will trade up for a qb...either one will fall to us or we will sign one (carr, volek, etc) via free agency.

No way we give up this years first, a second, and possible pick next year for Rivers. This team has to many needs right now. Look for us to draft a guy, and then either keep Gus, or sign a quality older QB to tutor the rookie.

We were high on Lemon and desperate to get rid of Feeley. Also there have been reports that our FO has no interest in Rivers. I personally like Rivers, but I think your friends scenario is a pipe dream.

Quinn is not coming out, if anything, now, they should trade down.

my brother speaking: Do you think Rivers is a franchise Qb? If we are in the mode of looking for a fanchise qb, who else is there if we cant get one of the three, if Rivers is a franchise type, then a 1 and picks next year is not that bad a deal.

I do think he is, but Miami has many needs. We may be looking at one more year of a "journeyman" QB and a QB drafted.

a strait up trade, your 1st rounder for Rivers. though the chargers would like to milk the fins out of more draft picks if possible.

the trade for Lemon would have nothing to do with a trade for Rivers. the fins gave up a 4th for Lemon not a down payment on Rivers.

he fits the mold of a franchise QB. Hes a safer bet than the rookies comming out this year (with the exception of leinart, but some team will offer A LOT in a trade to get Leinart).

havent seen enough of him to say if he is one or not but he was drafted #4overall for a reason...there are some later round prospects(cutler pinegar hackney olsen)....it depends on where our pick is at if its in the 15-20range id do for the first but wouldnt like giving up other picks we need as many as we can get

I thought we sent a 6th rounder to the Bolts for Lemon. When did it become a 4th?

It was a sixth.
