Shaun Hill to open season as 49ers starter

Good because I have Matt Ryan and Shaun Hill in one of my fantasy leagues and there was no way I was playing Ryan week 1

Hill has been the only one under center who could make the 49ers look like an NFL team since Jeff Garcia left. He deserves to start and it wouldn't surprise me if he makes them reasonably competitive.

Very assured QB, that will not turn the ball over as near as much as Smith. Have to believe that was a huge factor for Singletary to pick him over Smith.

That, and he's just played some darn good ball every time he's taken the helm for them. I don't think Singletary ever even considered Smith over Hill. He did enough last year to earn a chance to start the season for them and only a high-caliber QB (which Smith isn't and probably never will be) could change that.

We'll see how things play out without Mike Martz in San Fran.
