Shawne Merriman takes a little shot at JT on NFL Total Access

Merriman was being interviewed by the guys at NFLN studio and was asked by Terrell Davis to demonstrate how to get past an O-lineman. When showing how to get past a quick-footed O-lineman, Merriman said he would run up and around, hit the guy on the outside shoulder to get him off-balanced, and then said in a somewhat sarcastic manner facing the cameras:

"I'm gonna hit him in the outside shoulder, something that Jason Taylor is somewhat good of..."

I remember last year when JT was lobbying for long suspensions against guys that use performance-enhancing drugs, obviously pointing out Merriman. Then of course, Merriman, in a shot back, said he'd send JT a 'Lights Out' t-shirt and a box of popcorn during the playoffs.


Do you guys think there is any bad blood between the two, or just witty banter?

The blood is bad, and Merriman is a one trick pony.

Granted his one trick is a great one, and as long as he keeps racking up sacks he is a top linebacker in the league. However other than rush the passer all his other skills are pretty average.

I would really need to hear it to know for sure but the prose suggests he was crediting Jason Taylor with being good at something but underdoing it for humour. I think (And it's quite possible I'm wrong) he could have been saying Taylor is really good at hitting O-linemen on the outside shoulder. I think it was a compliment. Then again, I may be wrong...
