Im on my phone but Omar Kelly tweeted that the RG job is Shawn Murphy to lose. He said Murphy was one of the top three performers during OTA.

Murphy is another of the many players on our team who has really benefited from the off season training program.

Take a look at his video on aqua vision from a couple months ago. The dude is a muscle bound freak now.. Last year when we drafted him he looked like the pillsbury dough boy.

I think Sparano is rewarding him early in camp for his hard work in the off season. But I still think Sparano has that job up in the air... Murphy better play his *** off to keep that spot.

That is great news, at the very least it will mean we have some options at interior line for depth. I for one will be surprised if Thomas is not starting by the end of the week, but let the best man win.

I will say this, the longer Murphy stays with the 1st string the better it is for him. The FO will want to see some chemistry being built with the 1st string, so if Donald doesn't get in soon he may lose his starting job long term.

Either way, it is good to see Shawn stepping up and being the player the FO thought he was when they traded up to draft him. Good for Shawn!!

It is up in the air, this Sprano saying Murphy if you want the job keep it, I'm giving you a chance while I keep Thomas off the field and he's also saying Thomas, once I give you the green light, if you want the job, take it back..in the end it serves to have a better OL and the best man to win the job will be there..I think that will be Thomas in the end..

Just because he was with the first team in the first day of training camp doesn't mean anything. Its donald thomas job to lose.

best possible news right here, i have no problem if Murphy wins the job, as long as he earns it.

Why?

The man has never even completed one game . . . him and Murphy are on same terms, in fact, Murphy was a 4th rounder . . . I don't c why he cant win the job. Donald is still recovering, working his way back still . . . if he plays well, i can see him really winning that job.

Well Sparano said something similiar last year in reference to Langford and he remained at his position all year. So, it is very encouragin to hear this from Sparano towards Murphy. It is always nice to have either Donald or Murphy as backups incase Smiley gets injured again. Murphy looks like a lineman now where as before he looked very flabby. I think it is the best man job to win, but it cannot be good that Thomas is injured.

Omar Kelly tweeted that Sparano had this to say about Thomas:

Sparano on Donald Thomas: "We're going to be a little bit easy on him." Admitted Thomas doesn't have the green light.

Kelly also tweeted that Thomas said:

Donald Thomas said Sparano won't allow him to do contact stuff now. "I've got to start over from the beginning, start from square 1"

After reading this it appears that Murphy will eventually have some competation from Thomas, but he most be healthy first. Also Thomas needs to prove he is not injury prone. Therefore I must agree with Sparano that it is Murphy's job to lose.

Let's see who is playing RG come tomorrow. Not sure I trust that the job is Shawn Murphy's to lose.

I dont understand with how straight forward Sparano has been why some of you still question his comments. Who would you prefer to see at RG? Ndukwe, Alleman or Frye. Last time I checked Murphy was drafted in the 4th round and was expected to be a good lineman, but his conditioning was always a question. Now that the kid is in pro football shape why is it so hard for some of you to believe that maybe the kid can start.

I love Thomas and what he did last year was great, but all he has proved is that he is injury prone. I hope he gets healthy and may the best win, but you have to admit that it is encouraging to hear Sparano praise Murphy.

Not knocking Murphy at all. Just based on the OTA's, they rotated the RG spot every day. If Murphy's there tomorrow, then great - it means he's shown a little something; that said, I think they're best hope still lies in Donald Thomas.

Second-year player Shawn Murphy worked with the first-team offensive line at RG. "It's his job to lose," Sparano said of Murphy. The coach also said Murphy was among the two or three most improved players on the team in the offseason workouts and camps.

Sounds like his job to lose and it's a good thing, the offseason rebuilt his body and it's gonna be up to everyone else to beat him out.

I wouldnt underestimate Murphy....coming out he had the technique, just not the strength to be the guy. Thomas won the competition bc his body was ready, but he's still raw....Murphy looks jacked this yr. He could seriously be the guy we spent the last yr and a half looking for.

He also had a reputation in College for being a real nasty Run Blocker and I have heard that Thomas does not pull as nicely as Murphy.
