Here in San Diego there is some speculation around S. Merriman and if the Chargers want to get rid of him before his contract is up at the end of 2009, I think that they would consider getting rid of him for cheaper than we'd expect (due to the knee injury) like a 2nd and a 3rd? I heard that the CEO is happy with the play of J. Tucker and extended his contract (Merriman's replacement.) Could you imagine J. Porter on one side and S. Merriman on the other. :d-day:

Their defense wasn't the same without him, this would seem like a stupid move on their behalf. A young probowler for a 2nd is a steal, I just can't see this being true.

the chargers have already let it be known they dont want to resign him.
I wouldnt be shocked to see him leave sd
i would be shocked to see him come to mia

If he could be had for a "2nd or 3rd round pick", I could see him definitely coming to Miami in a heart beat. He is young, loaded with talent, and the perfect size/strength/speed to fit the Parcells mold.

Only thing is, I don't see the Chargers letting go of one of their most dynamic players for that cheap.

Just about every team in the league would trade a second for him...

If he is traded it will be for a player or picks...hell maybe even both. They have the time to drag it out...

They can sit on him this season, let him increase his value from the injury. Then tag him the following season. They have no issues tagging players...

If he blows out the knee again it sucks to be them...

However if his knee is in bad shape...they very well may be looking to move him for a 2nd & 4th round picks. But they would have to know the knee is done, before they would even try to trade him for a 2nd.

Buyer beware...lol. or not... lol.

Do it.

There's nothing quite like a franchise destroying trade for a 'marquee' player whose career is finished due to injuries.

I really enjoyed the last one we made.

I read reports SM may have to quit his knee was messed up so bad. I wouldn't touch him with a bargepole, even considering his undoubted talent.

The Trifecta is not going to trade multiple picks for any player, especially one that may not play again in the NFL and has been suspended for steriods. You have 2 risks with Merriman, injury and year long suspension - not going to happen.

It seems very unlikely that Miami would pony up whatever the Chargers would want for him. At the same time, with the amount of rocks this FO turns over (Cameron Wake and other teams practice squad guys like Haynos and Walden) I think it's something they'll keep in the back of their collective minds.

Remember, Parcells wanted Merriman instead of Ware in that 2005 draft, but with that knee injury, I just don't really foresee it.

what team is going to give a 2nd & a 4th for a liebacker with a messed up knee?

If he isn't recovering well, ok thats one thing. But for anyone to say no way we do it is crazy. He is young, a vocal leader, and a probowler. He isnt the first to get caught using steroids and the guy was always ready to play even with his leg falling off.

this is easily a 1st round, plus more worthy talent here....... teams would be literally lining up for this guy...
