Shelton battling for position?

Jeff Darlington writes that "L.J. Shelton and Anthony Alabi will be competing for the starting right tackle spot"

My concern is that if as mentioned by FH's camp reporters, Alabi is out of shape. How bad is Shelton to make this a competition?:confused::confused::confused:
 
I think this could be just purely a strategic tactic by Cam in order to get Shelton and Hadnot fired up and really wanting those spots along with seeing if Alabi and Mormino are the real deal or just dead weight....(Mormino is probably too early to tell but Alabi should be at the point where its a start doing something or quit wasting our time viewpoint)
 
we have a VET QB, we won't be playing many if any kids (aside from Samson) on the o-line.

Shelton will be starting
 
I thought Shelton played pretty well at guard last year...If Alabi is coming on strong, I wonder if we could put Shelton at LG with Hadnot at RG.
 
I am willing to bet this is our final o-line.

Carey--Hadnot--Satele--Shelton--Alabi

Perhaps flip-flop Hadnot and Shelton's spot. But I see Hadnot able to pick up the left side quicker than Shelton (he's still familiar with right from last year and played well there)

well, until Kendall is not here yet so I haven't included him. If so, I think he is at LG, Rex at RG....and Shelton may be at right....bench.

Houck has been high on Alabi since his drafting, and I get this feeling he believes Alabi can be this years "Vernon Carey" at RT. Not to mention he has a longer shelf life with this team than Shelton so I think they would like to see him make the move to starter.

I dont think that Alabi is an answer to anything other than who just got cut.I dont feel that as bad as our line was at times he would not earn more playing time.
 
Alabi was suppose to be very Good coming out of college and reports have said the kid is mobile and has great one-two punch. He is out shape now cause of an injury, but with the heat and these camps he should ready for the first pre-season game. My vote is in for Alabi, cause last year Shelton looked very slow at T and inmobile. Let the Battle begin.

I respect the work they do, but I don't put much faith in the training camp reporters who say so-and-so LOOKS out of shape. Ronnie Brown was supposedly out of shape, but then the official word is he is 10lbs lighter and working like a bull.
 
IMO I think the coaching staff really wants to see Alabi win the starting spot. Judging from the way they are pushing him, even though he is not in shape yet, tells me that the staff (and Houck in particular) probably has the same high regard for Alabi's potential that Saban had.

well it was reported he was out of shape like two months ago. Of course he'll be in shape now.
