In a deep dynasty league and trying to determine if either Sheppard or Tripp is worth a roster spot. Who would you pick or neither? Also tempted on rolling the dice with Aiken given the injury history of Delmas. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Tripp won't be a starter and Sheppard has a pretty decent chance of starting.....so I'd say the answer is Sheppard

Tripp is in the race for Strong side with McCain. And at nickel he should get alot of play.

Tripp can actually play all 3 Linebacker positions but he's probably best in the will role. I understand that he played mainly the sam role in Montana. He's deceptively good at rushing the QB - quite fast.

Tripp will make the team unless he totally falls off. He has been doing pretty good throughout camp thus far. His adding size and strength has helped him a lot.

I'd say neither right now. Sheppard will see the most snaps this season. But, if it's a dynasty league, Tripp has the brightest future IMHO.

When did weak side become strong side? The side where strong safety plays is the strong side and that is also the side where strng backer plays. Who decided and when to call that backer weak but keep safety strong?

Weakside/strong side is determined by the offense alignement

where did you come up with that theory?!

its determined by offense

I thought strong side and weakside depended on where the te and wrs lined up? Like if there is 2 wrs and a te on one side and one wr on the other the side with the te would be the strong side. Idk. I'm a basketball player. Football watcher. :)

This Reddit thread covers what typically determines where the SLB lines up. The SLB's they're describing would be guys like Bruce Irvin, Von Miller, Khalil Mack, and Anthony Barr. Ideally, this guy is going to be capable in coverage and strong setting the edge on base downs and plus pass rusher on passing downs. Chris McCain is the only player on the roster who could work in this capacity, but I get the feeling he's not good enough on base downs, so unless he improves, we'll likely see him as a guy that subs in to rush the passer.

Last year, Miami did not have that type of LB, and Wheeler played off the line more than the guys mentioned above. The coaches have talked about liking their LB's to be interchangeable. If the staff is fine using the SLB off the line, our best starting group might be WLB Jenkins, MLB Misi, SLB Tripp, who is the best athlete we have at LB, and he seems like he's made significant steps. There's still time for him to earn that spot. I'd rather use Shepard as a backup to Misi and a guy who subs in on obvious run down. There is a good chance that Misi goes down with an injury, and it's a good idea to keep your backup MLB fresh, but more than that, I want the best athletes on the field. With the blockers the D-line will occupy, I think it makes sense to have guys who get to the ball quick, and guys who can cover. There is zero doubt that Tripp offers much more upside in coverage.
