The NFL and the players’ union may not ink a new contract by March 3, but free-agent tight end Jeremy Shockey has every intention of doing so.

Per a league source, Shockey plans to sign with a new team before the expiration of the current league year, and in turn the possible commencement of a lockout.

At this point, however, no deal is imminent with the two teams that have shown interest in Shockey: the Dolphins and the Panthers. Even though Shockey has said he’d like to play for the Dolphins, we’re told that Shockey prefers the Panthers because of the presence of offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski, who worked at the University of Miami while Shockey played there.

If he signs with Miami great. If not, oh well...have fun in that high-powered Panthers offense Shockey! Going from the Saints to the Aints.

I read on rotoworld.com he would prefer to see with a team that is close to contention. Last time I checked the Fins were closer than the Panthers. I personally believe he will sign with whoever gives him the most cash, this could be his last contract.

So he's considering the Panthers more b/c of their OC coach but he was quoted as saying he'd like the Dolphins b/c of their new TE coach. Case in point, money talks. Don't look into anything that's said until it reads "Shockey has signed with ....."

Love how these guys try and find an excuse to take the cash. Don't neccesary blame any of them but from a comparatively poor person I don't understand the reason 3 or 4 million based on an overall earning career of 30 mil+ would guide the decision. I choose happiness at that point everytime. He will take the cash regardless.

you mean he doesnt want to play for the imortal BRIAN DABOL?

well, who needs him here then. everyone knows dabol is a highly
respected offensive mastermind. [how did that sound homers?]

man? miami low balled him that bad? he gift wrapped himself to
the bumbling finz and they low balled him bad enough to leave
as soon as the offer was made?

i dont think shocky expected a 10 mil a year deal from anyone
and certainly knew the finz would expect a little home town
discount [that he would have allowed] so this offer must have
really been LOW!!

because i do believe he wants to play in miami where his glory
years in college were and he lives in off season. the offer must
have been pretty insulting.

goooo team IRELAND!!

Shockey has not even met with the panthers yet...

Most of them blow through their money, so 1 mil extra is big, especially now that they are realizing they arent' going to get another huge deal.

Yeah, Daboll has been absolutely terrible for us so far...

Some of you people need to at least give the guy a chance. I find it amazing that many are already saying he was a terrible choice before he has even called an offensive play for the Dolphins. Mind blowing.

This. Let's give Daboll a chance.

offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski

- weren't we supposed to get this guy, and it was a 5 star thread. I hope Daboll does better than "Chud"

The biggest lie in professional sports:

When a professional athlete says, "It's not about the money." That's all that it's about. Nothing else.

who knows what he may do but hiring an oc that ranked 30th or lower out of 32 teams, two years in a row is never a great choice
in all honesty this was not a great year to be looking for an oc though.
