What do you think of the shootout rule so far in the NHL? I'm against the idea even though I'm young I still think old time fashion hockey is the best and this shootout stuff needs to stay only in olympics where it belongs.

Just wanted to hear your opinions.

I like the idea. To many boring endings in hockey, now your guaranteed a puck passing a goalie to win. I still haven't seen a shootout yet (last night I had 3 televised games here, Islanders, Rangers, and Devils, and none went to the shootout) so I can't definitevly say I like it but I like the idea and am curious to see how it plays out!

I also like the idea, ties are boring...who wants to pay money for a tie? i think the shootout is good for the NHL.

3 minutes left in OT in the Rangers game. I could be getting my first taste of the shootout tonight!

Ya Ryder with the goal! He played for Hamilton. Do you Ranger fans know if Jozef Balei is still on your team he came from Montreal in the Kovalev trade and he is a great young player.

The shoot out is going to be good for about 2 months before everyone gets tired of it. Sure its exciting but after the 16th time you're seeing it it'll get old fast.

Here's where your reasoning errs, though. Since teams can no longer "play for a tie", in other words, lock up and play defensive hockey in the OT, many teams will break it open in the 5 minutes rather than packing it in, especially those teams who don't have a lot of scoring punch or a great lockdown goalie. With teams not trying to win a war of attrition in those 5 minutes, we won't be seeing as many OTs getting through 5 minutes, and thus, fewer shootouts than you estimate.

No you have a good point. However I just think that seeing a lot of these shot outs will get boring. That's jsut my opinion though I haven't really followed hockey since Patrick Roy retired and I've never been an expert in the field. So I could be totally wrong. I do however think its a smart way to get fans and more people to watch.

balej is on the hartford whalers in the AHL so he can get more ice time

i love shootouts

The shootout is a great addition.

No more tie games...everyone goes home (after paying $100) knowing someone won the game.

There won't be that many shootouts either. Teams don't want it to go to the shootout so they will attack and try to score in O.T. even more then they did before.

It's just another rule to increase the flow of the game and encourage OFFENSE. The whole point of hockey is to try and score goals...not defend a 1-0 second period lead by hooking and holding your way through the better part of half a game.

The shootout will have a direct reflection on how the regualation and O.T. portions of the game are played....and that is a great thing.

All that being said...if Bettman and his band of idiots try to bring the shootout into the PLAYOFFS I will be forced to destroy him.

Now Balej is on Vancouver because Rangers traded him for Fedorov and why do you love shootouts? Do you think you will love them after a season of seeing them?

ties aren't even ties in the NHL. you got a point for them. it's not the same as seeing a tie in the NFL, or college as it used to be. i like the new rules. teams like the lightning can take advantage of the speed boost without all the damn holding :D

I LOATHE ties, i think the shootout will really help hockey. Sure it would suck to lose a game by a shootout especially if it was crucial, but it makes the game more exciting, makes fans want to attend games where they wont waste 85 dollars to see defensive hockey for 5 minutes followed by a lousy tie.
