Is it me, or do we hardly use the shotgun formation on 3rd and long? Everytime I see the QB's hands under the center's *** on 3rd and 10+ I feel like punching Dan Henning. Everyone and their mother knows the QB will throw, so might as will try to buy him some more time.

He wouldn't even be forced into the 3 and 10 position if Henning remembered that he has Brown and Williams.

It's Ricky freaking Williams, dude. Just give him the ball on 1st down, he'll get a couple yards on a bad play. Brown was getting yards OFF TACKLE when the Saints KNEW he was going to run the ball. How did this Henning idiot abandon the run and FORCE Henne into 3'rd and 10 over and over and over...

I'm not referring to today's game. 3rd and long happens to every team at some point. Just wish they'd use the shotgun more in those situations.

I think we mainly do it because it helps Henne maintain his timing with the receivers.

Why are we running playaction in those situations? It may be ridiculous but in the Jets game Henne was something like 7/7 on PA pass. Do you think Henne calls PA pass on 3rd and long because of something as dumb as this?

Because it sets up the timing with the recievers in the Qb's 3 or 5 step drop after the PA.
