what if shotty jr. pulled his name so he could come be a OC under his dad in miami.. if shotty does come here....just throwin this out there:blowup:

That would be a lateral move. It's not allowed. There would have to be a promotion for him to come work under his dad. And since he can't be promoted, then he won't be coming.

It's not quite as simple as saying that it can't be done, but it is unlikely that Brian would join the Dolphins (at least initially). The Jets would have to consent to it, and they have no good reason to do so. I suppose it could be possible for Brian to choose not to renew whatever contract he has to come work for dad in a year or two when that contract expires, though.

well thank you anyways i forgot all about this:bye:...lol

Would assistant HC be a promotion from OC?

There are only two levels as far as this is concerned: assistant and head coach. There is one head coach, and everybody else is an assistant. That's how Miami can keep Garrett from interviewing for an OC job.

Adding asst head coach along with OC would be a promotion. Unless the rules have changed, that's how Dallas kept Hudson Houck when Jimmy Johnson wanted to bring him on. They promoted him to asst head coach.

I don't buy it. If it were that easy, I'm confident that Romeo would be more than happy to give up the title AHC/OC to Garrett. Titles are cheap.

To be clear, I'm talking about the current rules, not whatever was in place in 1996. I remember that talk as well, but it doesn't seem to hold up in this era.

I mentioned this as a possibility the other day. The other posters were saying it can't be done because being named assistant head coach doesn't mean a promotion. I would love for it to happen though. Then Brian could take over for Marty in a couple of years when Marty is ready to retire.

We can basically keep any assistant under contract from getting any job in the NFL except a head coach job, we don't have to promote our Qb coach to keep him from getting an OC job. This was something that teams used to do.

Exactly, that is how Belichick kept Dean Pees away from Saban. He was the secondary coach for the Patriots and Saban wanted him in Miami to be the DC. But he was blocked from coming even though it would have been a promotion for him.

Right -- it's the same principle that will very likely prevent Brian S. from coming here even if dad is hired as the head coach.

Yes but we already gave Capers this title, don't think you can have more than one, but not sure.

That used to be a way coaches could be taken away from other teams. But the NFL has put a stop to it.
