Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams has stated that he plans to end his strange NFL career after the 2010 season. Before that happens, though, Williams has to worry about his contract -- which expires after this season.

In the end, the Dolphins should send Williams off into the sunset wearing their colors. The Dolphins gave Williams a second chance and he has proven himself worthy of it, filling in admirably for Ronnie Brown when needed.

Some people knock Williams for not putting up big numbers last season, but it would have been hard for anyone to light up the stat sheet with the offensive line injuries Miami went through. Williams still almost gave 900 all-purpose yards to the offense. How much more could you ask for from him as a back splitting carries, really?

Williams said that he wanted to walk away on his own terms and you have to give him credit for that. Too many players hang on in the twilight of their careers, and it ends up damaging both their body and legacy (Brett Favre, for instance). Williams will be the first to admit that he has done more damage to his reputation than anyone else, but he has also done a lot of good. Williams has gained respect in the locker room as a hard worker and does exactly what he needs to do.

With Williams I really beleive to keep him focused on football you use play now for pay now mentaility to keep him fucused on football and get the best results. The phins are on the right track for themsleves and Ricky. He gets a very nice payday when he is on the field and is cut off entirly when he is not there. No huge bonus's that allows him to drift off gotta keep that incentive under his nose!

What happened to our 8.6? You know, all that green-not that kind- that he owed us? He is getting off very very easily. People often forget that he never did repay that money.
How about an indentured servant type contract? That would be make more sense than anything else IMO.
What if YOU paid a guy a ton of money to come install wood floors and he never finished the job but was paid for it?
Don't get me wrong i like Ricky, but not what he pulled on us back in the day.

All said, i think we will lock him up, no one else is going to take the risk of another failed drug test (which would mean a ban for life)

The rest of his career is only 1 or 2 more years, and I think he will take whatever we offer him. Doesn't sound like it would be too far fetched to give him a 1 year extension after this year, depending on performance.

Yes, lock him up. He won't demand a lot of money, and more than likely wants to only play for us. He likes Parcells, Coach, and Ronnie, so keep him happy.

lock up an old running back?

that is insanity

Ricky can run and catch except for the drop in the Jets game
He made some key runs and catches for us in 2008
At times, he looked faster than R. Brown
He is a very hard worker
His salary is very generous

Why not ???

Ricky has more talent (nevermind experience) than many backs entering the league today...and with the years off and not alot of hits taken on the field. He has extended his career as a running back. Love to see him finish his career on his terms but even more so as a Miami Dolphin
