In watching him yesterday it was clear that every time Jarvis Landry gets his hands on the ball he is a threat. He runs with no fear, total commitment, great moves and tremendous athleticism. But that same fearlessness on kick returns could easily end in tears too. I dunno - I love his passion and ability on the returns, but I also want him catching passes full time and for a full season, and all it takes is one bad/unlucky hit on special teams to take that away. What do you guys think?

He could get hurt just catching passes too.

It was pointed out to me that returners really don't get hurt very often. Its a myth that returning kicks dramatically increases injury risk

Yes. That man should touch the ball as much as possible.

Players get hurt sometimes there's no way around it. Landry has been spectacular and he will be taking one to the house very soon. So yes.

He's got a good build to withstand injuries. He's too electric back there to take him off it. Once he's a more integral part of the option down the road you started looking for a guy who can take the load off.

Yeah, I hear what you guys are saying but there's a reason Deion Sanders hardly returned any kicks after his 4th year (even though he was probably the best kick returner the NFL has ever seen).

(Note: Deion did do some punt returning later in his career.)

There was an interesting discussion on NFL Network about how the Steelers seem to have a rule to just draft receivers that had been returners to some degree in college. I think it was Nate Burleson that said his best season as a wide receiver was also the year he was the return man, he said returning kicks helps you to see the field as a receiver, and that leads to yac. Which is why Pittsburgh receivers are one of the best corps in the league at generating yac.

Kicks yes, punts no.

Kicks 100% yes if we only have to return one a game.

I was not a fan of playing Jarvis as a kick and punt returner at the start of the season when he made some mistakes, but he has improved and he seems to be handling it well. He is tough and physical and not afraid of receiving a hit. He also likes being in the action. I may be wrong but he doesn't look too vulnerable. This is not like Ted Ginn Jr returning the ball with just speed. Landry seems to enjoy the physical side of the game, he's not scared, he's tough.
