Hopefully...with a little "luck"...Next year will be the start of a new era.
You can play games with stats. For instance mixing Ricky's better stats with Ronnie's or not mentioning that Ricky is behind Ray Rice and Ronnie is behind McCoy.
Stats are valid or they are not. If these two are such hot potatos, then they should be starting.
I'm not saying Ricky and Ronnie aren't talented. Far from it. I'm simply trying to point out
that wailing and gnashing teeth over the loss of these two is far from necessary. We have
a back that is out producing both those backs with half the games played. I think playing
in half the games outweighs being #2 on the depth chart. Now, you can say that Ricky Williams
is more durable than Thomas, true enough but Ronnie Brown has a past riddled with injuries.
I agree the roster is under performing. RonnieThe entire Eagles team is under performing and Ronnie has only 13 carries for 38 yards, a 2.8 YPC in spot duty. One run here, anther run a Qtr later.
included. Did you like his lateral on the goal line? What a veteran play that was.
Fair enough. I missed the one reception. I was looking at a game stat, not the season stats. That doesn't change anything in the argument. In fact, none of these stats change anything in my argument. On the Ravens, the running back really wanted to keep is Ricky Williams, he has 33 carries (half of the 66 R Rice has) Ricky Williams has ran for 138 yards which at 4.7 YPC is better then Ray Rices. You also missed that Ricky has 2 pass receptions for 15 yards, not just one.
And Ronnie Brown was chosen where? On the list of things I want my RB to be able to do, blockingSo now we have in D Thomas a slower version of Ronnie Brown that cost us a couple of picks that could have been used on...hmmm, the OL? Some blocking would help since neither R Bush or D Thomas can pass block or pick us a blitz. I was not surprised that Chad Henne was hurt on a mistake in the backfield, I called that before the season started. I just thought it would be Thomas and not Hillard that did it.
is last on the list. Not saying it's important, just saying I want him to produce in the running game first...
hence the term "Running back".
Slaton may or may not produce, and we got him for nothing. Overpaying for veteran backs isn't the bestPeople get so far on one side or the other, my spot is more in the middle. OK, Draft D Thomas. Trade for and overpay R Bush. But WTF not keep Ricky Williams? Were we holding that roster spot open for L Johnson or S Slaton?
route necessarially. My position is pretty much in the middle too, really. I'm not saying it wouldn't have
been wise to retain Ricky or Ronnie, I'm just saying I see no big f'in' deal about them being let go is all.
Machts nichts really. I think the RB situation is the very least of this team's ills is all. That or Punter.
Based on the stats so far this year, I'd say that's a fair assumption, as is the hamstring injury thing. But let's not pretend Ricky has never missed a game due to injury. Same with Ronnie. I will so stipulate that they are both better blockers than Thomas.I'm 100% sure that Ricky Williams would have played in all four games. I'm 100% sure that Ricky Williams would not have a hamstring injury. I'm a 100% sure that Ricky Williams could have helped us running the ball in the redzone. I'm 100% sure that Ricky Williams can pick up a blitz.
Well, you don't know that to be true. That's your opinion. Never confuse opinion with fact. And hey, get this, HE LIVES HERE, IF WE WOULD OF ASKED HIM, HE WOULD HAVE RESIGNED HERE FOR LESS THEN WE HAVE PAID THE RUNNING BACKS TO TRY TO REPLACE RICKY.
You can be 101% sure of something you don't know about. Doesn't make it fact. I could be 100% sureI'm also 100% sure that in the last
couple of months, from time to time, as they were bringing RBs off the street to try out, someone in the FO quietly said "OMG, why didn't we keep one of our running backs?"
the sky is red. That doesn't make it so.
One could argue that the line is worse this year than last.
Thats debatable, which means not really a difference. Again the BIG difference is teams are not stacking the line.
I completely understand that the running game struggled last year. But I do not believe it was due to the running backs. It was due to the interior offensive line struggling and teams stack against the run on us for years because it was the only part of our offensive game that teams respected. I still believe that Ronnie and Ricky would of had a chance to have a decent enough year that we could of waited to target a running back. I may be wrong but I did feel Mallet has a lot of talent, unlike Pat White that we took a chance on years ago.
Do you have any citeable quantification for that, or is that your opinion?
Huh, so I have to read it from someone else, in order for me to know this?? How about watching the games. So its my opnion if I "SEE" the safeties stepping in the box to stop the wild cat, compared to seeing the safeties staying back or dropping back in respects to gates being in the game. LOL I mean really, if you didnt know teams were stacking for the run the past years, you really wasnt paying much attention.
Its not a matter of being attached, it was the matter of priorities. We should of address the QB position ahead of the running back position. Taking a chance on Ryan Mallett, should of been ahead of taking a chance on Daniel Thomas. I have more faith in Ronnie and Ricky than i did in Henne.
Many of us dont feel that drafting Mallett would of been addressing the qb position properly. I'd much rather have Pouncey, Thomas, and either Luck or Barkley than Mallett and whomever. We could of drafted Greg Mcelroy in the first round but that doesnt mean that we addressed the position.
