The biggest example of course was the huge debate over TO and the currently dying down debate about Ricky Williams. What do you guys think about picking up players who are potential studs but have prior problems on some level. We got someone like Channing who has stepped up for us and Ricky did all the right things this season for me. I wouldn't have a problem signing anyone who can help. I'm not so worried about chemistry as I am by lack of talent/depth.

I say this because of the draft coming up, I'm sure there will be guys who slip for off field incidents or whatnot like Poole. Ahmad Brooks (former top 5 potential and I think would fit well with our scheme physically) was just dismissed by UVA and might enter the supplemental and could be this year's Manny Wright. They also dismissed Vince Redd, who I believe is a massive 6'6 280 pound DE/OLB hybrid of sorts. I remember picking him up in the 7th round in Madden and he is fast as hell for his size but thats just a video game, I've never seen him on tape. I'm sure someone in the draft forum would know more. Just a few examples of guys I think are worth a shot with a low risk contract offer or draft pick. Personally I would rather have someone with a mouth on my team than an Eddie Moore. Your thoughts?

Some players will NEVER change...some players just need a change of scenery..

..Some of the college guys money is an issue...so once they get in the NFL they get paid plus the older you get obviously the more mature you become.

Somehow I get the feeling this will turn into a T.O. thread again.....Next.........

I think every situation needs to be evaluated individually. Some college kids do stupid things and learn from it, others are jerks to the core and will cause more problems than their talent is worth (as you pointed out the prime example of that being TO and the Eagles). I'm not against taking a chance on a kid with baggage as long as it looks like that kid is learning and moving in the right direction (i.e. Channing Crowder).

I doubt it will turn into a TO thread now that he is a Cowboy and unavailable. We can't get him even if we wanted so nobody should argue it.

Yes! If Saban Feels a guy like Ernie Sims is much more talented than a Chad Greenway I say he goes with the talent, his Caching style will not allow one man to out of control and I think he has shown hes ready to take that risk, with his work with Ricky and nearly getting TO.

T.O got paid..so now all he'll do is dominate. His "bitching" wont be an issue.

I think I have a T-shirt idea!
"Not another T.O. thread!"

If Saban feels he can handle a guy with off-field problems, I hope he goes for it. A lot of guys just need a coach who can coach, if you know what I mean.

In Saban We Trust!

My impression of Saban is that he places a lot more emphasis on character than previous coaches, or many of the other coaches in the league. But, I also agree with SoDakDolfan in that I believe every situation must be handled individually, where the actual character flaw is evaluated on how it could impact the team.

SoDakDolFan has it right.

When the question lumps in the types of issues Channing Crowder had with the types of issues T.O. has, you can't answer it. They are two totally different things.

Every player has to be looked at individually.

Well he brought in Ricky, Crowder, Culpepper and I think a few others with character issues that I dont remeber. He seems to be a guy that dosnt let someones past rule them out as a Dolphin as long as he is convinced that they truly want to move forward and change. If I remember corectly he also has a reputation in collage of taking on players with question marks and geting them to play well while staying out of trouble.

I think its hard for people like us to decide who has character issues and who doesnt. everything we hear comes from the media. to be honest, i didnt think what TO did was as bad as it was made out to be. i think mcnabb has just as many character issues as TO does. you also look at players having legal matters off the field. i dont think its fair to them for us to judge them based on one or two incidents that have been reported to us. the best way to judge someones character is by actually meeting them.
