Should the Dolphins Trade Brandon Marshall ?

If we trade marshall there would be a huge glaring hole that we obviously have to fill...doesnt help us one bit to trade marshall for anyone...

Anybody is on the table for a trade, so it would depend on the situation. I think it would be hard to trade Marshall and get equal or greater value out of it. Besides that, what team would trade for Marshall if there was a chance he wouldn't be happy and fit in there.

Before you guys all go savage and flame like usual, read the article. There are some valid points/options in there. :err:

O
K. All you 16 year olds out there...Flame ON! :flames:
The adults may start the rational discussion on the relative merits of the points in the article. :ponder:

The writer wants Marshall traded because he may have hurt Matt Moore's feelings? Really!!??

Marshall did not lead the league in drop passes, although he was close, and Brandon was one of the league league leaders in receptions of 25+ yards with 16.

Maybe we should forget that it was Marshall who put Vontae Davis in his place for showing up to practice hungover. You can say what you want to about Brandon's past issues but you cannot deny that he was one of the team leaders last season.

I find it interesting that once Brandon came to grip with his emotional issues, all these threads pop up with suggestions of trading him.

I'm still trying to find those valid points/options in the article.

I'm gonna play devil's advocate. The biggest issue with Marshall is his salary hit. He'll take down 11.3M in 2012. He's the 3rd highest paid WR in 2011 (behind fitzgerald and megatron). There's a huge pool of FA WR's this year. I'll list some that are likely to hit the open market:

Dwayne Bowe
Vincent Jackson
Marques Colston
Robert Meachem
Desean Jackson
Steve Johnson
Reggie Wayne
Brandon Lloyd
Laurent Robinson

Some of those guys really aren't anything special, but what if we could free up the cap space to sign two of them? 3 of them? We're suppose to be moving to a offense with WCO elements next year right? That requires 3-5WR sets. I don't know if we're 5WR deep at the position at the moment. There's pretty big drop off after marshall/bess/hartline. Would you give up marshall if that means we can sign 2 more WR's? 3?

Here's a link of 2011 cap hits from WR's to get an idea of how much money brandon marshall is getting:

No way do we trade a top 3 AFC receiver in the prime of his career. If we finally DO get a quality QB this offseason, who is he going to throw too???? Bess and Hartline are good, but they definitely aren't number 1 receivers who will give you 1,100-1200+ yd production year in and year out.

Marshall is a luxury player. It's surely obvious now (even for the folks who didn't know it before - like our GM) that adding a star receiver makes hardly any difference if you've got a lemon for a QB

11-5, 7-9 => blockbuster trade for Marshall => 7-9, 6-10. You can't even say the offense has got better. It's got worse

On the other hand if you've got the QB you don't need the star receiver - certainly not guys who cost two high picks and 8m a year anyway. You just need guys who can run accurate routes and catch the ball. The last time we had a QB who could run an offense we won the division and who were the WRs ? Ted Ginn, Greg Camarillo and Davone Bess

And then that same QB threw 4 INTs trying to force it to those said WRs.

In the playoffs.
