Should the Jets give up on Gholston? Good ESPN article

if he gets released I would give him a shot

before the signing of Jake Long there were rumors Jake didn't want to come here and that we were moving on to Gholston (glad we didn't)

if he were released I would take a chance on him
he would be a cheap potential replacement for Porter

How does Jake Long have anything to do with an OLB???

Here's a quote from a Jets board--

RevisAndHarris
"mentally, he's just not there. he played DE in college, so he knows how to play with his hand on the ground. he doesn't know how to play in space... at all. he's very easy to confuse, gets caught out of position if there's any sort of misdirection whatsoever and is hesitant about everything he does. personally, i think the physical tools are there, but his head isn't there yet.

the guy needs to spend the entire off-season studying the playbook and film, not for other people's tendencies, but just how he's supposed to line up, what his assignment is and how he's supposed to attack. i still believe he can be a good player, but he needs some serious mental training before his physical attributes come into play.

unlike a lot of other posters, i actually think he puts in a good effort. but effort and physical gifts can only take you so far. the guy just needs to sit down and study."

I don't have to read the article to answer "YES".

If your a OLB in Rex Ryan system and you can't get presure on the qb that isn't good

As for the topic at hand, yes. With an uncapped year, they can rid themselves of his big contract without a cap hit. No brainer imo.

I thought Chis Long and Matt Ryan was being heavily considered. But then again Ireland said that they new Jake Long from day one, but who knows. We'll never know the truth anyways.
