Should the Miami Dolphins draft a QB?

Not early with all of our other needs. 6th or 7th. Maybe 5th if we have a solid first couple days of the draft

It's a good to draft QBs even if you have a solid starter. If you have a surplus of QBs you will have a trade partner out there willing to part with picks.

My thoughts are similar to points made in this article.

There is so much about the Miami Dolphins’ quarterback situation that we still don’t know.
Is Ryan Tannehill the guy? Some fans believe he can be but has been let down by bad coaching, a weak offensive line, a weaker running game, and the lack of weapons.
Others believe Tannehill is the problem.

The truth is somewhere in between: Tannehill doesn’t have the protection, his weapons could be better, and the offensive line and running game could be dramatically better.
With that in mind, the question of what to do at quarterback has come up this offseason, a question that only gets muddled when you consider the possibility that of the four top quarterbacks in the 2014 NFL Draft (Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles, Johnny Manziel and Derek Carr), one (or more) could be available when Miami is on the clock

The only reason Miami should consider round 1 QB Would be if a can't miss....Andrew Luck type quarterback was staring them in the face, which is highly doubtful in this case.

The only argument IMO would be Johnny Football who showed enough "special qualities" that if you have a strong conviction on him you might pull the trigger...I don't see enough in these other guys to do that...and even Manziel is not a "Luck" type prospect on paper....but he does have something special...to gamble on it transferring to the pro level is risky IMO.

The Dolphins right now badly need that pick to help Tannehill not replace him.

If Tannehill wasn't the recipient of 58 sacks (10 most in NFL history) last year...The argument against him and for trying to replace him would be stronger....but it just isn't there right now.

He showed me enough despite getting hammered that many times to believe he can succeed with adequate protection.

Nah. I'd rather see our late round pics be a guy that can at minimum contribute to special teams and possibly be a break out star at LB, DT, or any other spot on the field over a guy buried behind Tannehill and Moore. We don't have the luxury this year to go acorn shopping at QB.

Next year, Matt Moore is gone and possibly Devlin. Go ahead and take a flyer on a late rounder with potential then.

How good is Pat Devlin as a backup? I know that there are a few of his fans that see him as a future starter but we haven't seen much yet. Is he just making up the numbers on the roster? It could make sense to draft someone like Aaron Murray or AJ McCarron around the 4th round, as the future long term backup.
I like Matt Moore and he has been an ideal backup to Tannehill. However, longer term there may be merit in saving the $5M. The time to prepare for 2015 is drafting someone appropriate in 2014 and developing him as a form of lower cost insurance.

If a good sleeper QB is available after round 5. We should also put Devlin in with the starters during 1-2 preseason games and see how he does. What little I've seen of Devlin during the preseason has been decent. If Tannehill goes down, I don't think either of our backups could take us further. I think Matt Moore is too expensive for a back-up.

Tanne still needs that time. Its not like he's Peyton Manning with insane experience.

Wow. No. Not in the first round.

I am cool with taking somebody in the 5th or later, there is no need to waste a high pick on QB.

Early? No.

I would take a quarterback on the third day of the draft(Rounds 4-7). Someone to push and possibly unseat Devlin this year and possibly take over for Moore in 2015 as the main backup.

Agreed, which was basically the premise of the article, use the first round pick to help the QB or trade down if opportunity is there.

I am not sure we should do it at all. Too many other needs this year. This is the time for RT to step up.

Not this draft, everybodys favorite backup was a UDFA.

Would offer double the standard signing bonus for a UDFA for the next Pat Devlin.

Pushing the pile from the bottom up

The Jordan Rodgers signing probably took care of that.

I think that guy might be worth something down the road. He WON at VANDERBILT.

Think he was signed more as just a camp arm.

WEAKNESSES: Considerably shorter than preferred does not appear to have the incredible field vision which allows other short quarterbacks (like Drew Brees, Russell Wilson, etc.) to compensate. Average arm strength. Needs a clean pocket and room to step into long-distance throws. When he isn't allowed to step toward his target, Rodgers' passes tend to flutter, as do too many of his deep passes, which could prove to be his Achilles' heel as NFL defenses will crowd close and force him to beat them over the top.

Clean pocket, he would have probably been killed if he was here last year.
