IF we get eliminated from the playoffs (either by us losing or NE winning what they need to eliminate us; both of which I hope DO NOT happen), should saban give sage and especially Lemon chances to work in real game situations more? I'm thinking that if we are eliminated, then based upon saban's philosophy of building for the future, you should see what we have at QB and possibly other positions where we have potential players who could use real game experience to be evaluated?

lemon is a bum. no future qb in him. he was brought in here to save money for the 2006 season.

I believe that if we are eliminated from the playoffs, I would be inclined to save the wear and tear on my stars and, at the same time, see which of the rookie / newbie pool deserves to have a roster spot next season. It really is the only way to know how deep our current pool of talent is.

I think Sage should start now....in their head to head games ( Cleveland and Buffalo)Sage has out played Gus.

Sage....47 att....27 cp....286 yds

Gus.....46 att....16 cp....168 yds.

It's not close when you compare them head to head.

what are the chances that gus has a good game against the chargers?

Never say never...but I would say about as good as him getting his bell rung again.

I haven't seen him play but Lemon has had some pretty good reviews.

Here's one:

When famed rock columnist Jon Landau saw a 25-year-old musician open for Bonnie Raitt in 1974, he wrote, "I saw my rock and roll past flash before my eyes. I saw something else: I saw rock and roll's future and its name is Bruce Springsteen." Well, I watched the Chargers beat the 49er's in Thursday's pre-season finale. And guess what? I saw football past flash before my eyes. I saw something else: I saw football's future and its name is ...

Cleo Lemon.

Who?! That's right, Chargers third-string quarterback, Cleo Lemon. In only a quarter's worth of football, a man named Lemon stole my heart. The former Arkansas State gunslinger put on an absolute show. Down 21-14 in the fourth, Lemon rolled to his left, escaped three 49ers defenders, and heaved a 30-yard bomb off one leg to tight end Landon Trusty for a score. A nearly impossible throw to make, Lemon ended up amongst his Chargers teammates on the sidelines as he released the pass. Move over Montana to Clark, give me Lemon to Trusty!

This is not a thread about sage vs. gus. My question is if we are eliminated from the playoffs should we test the unproven players (including QB) in regular season games to see where we/they are. I see the worst case being we lose a few more and we know that X player does not deserve to be kept next year. best case, these guys shine in real games, and we know we have depth at certain positions.

First off, I don't think Cleo Lemon will ever see time on the field as a Miami Dolphin quarterback unless its preseason or our first two options at QB are hurt. Second, if we fall from contention, I wouldn't have any problem with starting Sage, and I don't think the team would either, as I believe he won alot of trust and loyalty from the players after Sunday's win.

However, fishypete, you can't just compare the two games Gus and Sage played in together. You can't discount Gus' games against the Broncos, Patriots, or Raiders...He played well. We all know Gus is inconsistent, but he's our starter that Coach Saban is going with so we have to support that decision.

Why do you believe that?
