The Jets have cut LT Jason Fabini for cap reasons. He made 2.875 last year and was due 3.2 this year. He started 9 gms LY before going on IR. I think he's worth a "look see" perhaps and haven't seen anything about him here yet and was wondering what others think. Granted, we're poised to go after Brees if he hits the market and the $$$ are going to be a factor. However, if we were to sign him now, it would buy us some time to make roster moves to still go after Brees. I am surprised I haven't heard anything else about it.

Jat Fiedler was also cut and clears the way for his return back here !!!
[THAT is a joke !! :D ]

I would give him a look but there is a reason why Chad and Fiedler went down this year. I'm not saying its Fabini's fault at all but I would check into his real ability and his injury before signing.

Fabini was hobbled all last year with an MCL sprain. To protect his weak leg they put him at RT, but he was being badly beat.

Another case of JETS playing players that are injured and having them sustain even more injuries..
See: Pennyarm, Fabini, C. Martin...

No. Fabini was never that great of a player, and is too much finesse for the Dolphins.

DMac is serviceable for now. Fabini would not be an upgrade IMO. LT's cost way too much in FA. You have to get lucky in the draft. Hopefully we have in Alabi - we'll just have to wait awhile longer. I say keep Dmac and spend on a dominant RG to put next to Carey.

DMac's cap # is 4.475 mil. For that, I'd want a bit more than just "servicable".

What's his salary? Some of that I thought was bonus money that we would get hit with if he gets cut. I thought his salary was around 3-3.5 mil. It would be tough to find a better LT for 3 mil in FA. They are such a premium. If it is 4.5 - now you might have some room. I think in FA LT's are so overpriced. Backus in Detroit is okay and they franchised him I'm sure for the simple reason that it's so hard to find a replacement for less. IMO he may be worth keeping for 1 more year with hope that Alabi will be ready in '07.
