Watching Wanny "coach" reminds me of what a great coach Shula was. Shula faced greater adversities than Wanny, yet always had his team ready to play. That included back-up QB's and running backs.
I believe this team has good-great talent. They are just poorly coached and ill-prepared. Shula could take the talent on this team and win 12-14 games.
I have held off saying that Wanny should go because of the troubles the team has faced this year. But after watching last night's game it is obvious that he is unable to respond to adversity - even after a full training camp, the pre-season and two weeks of the regular season. Leaders not only overcome adversity, they often relish it. Adversity is the stage on which leaders are born. This team lacks true leadership at the top - no wonder there are no true leaders on the team. He does not inspire anyone to lead or to follow.
Wanny appears to be a very nice guy, but I'm afraid he's not a very good leader. There's an old saying that "Everything rises and falls on leadership." It's also true with football. Shula was a prime example.
Hindsight tells us that Wayne H. should have fired Wanny and given this group of players a chance to win. That may also be considered a failure of leadership. The chaos in the front office before the season started also indicates that there is a lack of leadership in this organization. Perhaps that is why Marino stepped aside so quickly - true leaders can't stand ineptitude.
I hope I am wrong, but this may be the longest season Dolphin fans have endured in a long time. If I were Wayne H., I would give Wanny 2 more games to show he could get take this talent and win. If he did not win them both, I would fire him, replace him with Trestman and ride out the season. If the assistant coaches have a problem with Trestman as rumored, I'd fire them, too. Somebody needs to take control of this team before it spins completely out of control.
