Your opinion is not that of every fan. I for one am happy that Saban does not let his coaches speak to the media. It keeps our gameplan a secret and keeps the other teams guessing.
It also ensures that there is only 1 voice of the Dolphins team. This idea serves to cut down on the rumors and leaks. Sure, some of the folks out there will speculate as to where the team is going and fabricate some rumors. But that plays a part in keeping the rival teams guessing also.
When there is clarity to be made, Saban makes it. If he mis-speaks, he clarifies and takes blame himself. I love the idea, and endorse it with my Dolfan seal of approval.

COTE's "problem" his REAL PROBLEM is that he has a job to do. And that job is made HARDER when everyone in town is writing the same story off of what SABAN says. Under Wanny, all KINDS of stories were written and just about every private locker room event or meeting or fight got "out" to the public. Do you REALLY think it wasn't one of the assistants feeding a reporter info so that the assistant could be mentioned with kindness and so that the writer could have a scoop?

COTE won't call it what it is, so I will. SABAN insisting that he be the ONLY voice for the Dolphins does NOT hurt the coaches, players, staff or fans.

It pisses off the MEDIA that have to write CRAP all Off-Season and can't sit around and make stuff up EVERYDAY (Cold Pizza Report about SABAN tellin GUS your starting days are over? C'mon! Three Months before the draft?) because they're credibility would be shot!

It pisses HIM off. And no one else but him and all of the other lazy a$$ writers.

Ignore him, that's what SABAN does. That's what I'll do.

Well, I can see both sides, but I tend to agree with Cote on this one. For purely selfish reasons.

I want to hear from Houck, particularly.

I doubt any of them would be giving away game plans or leaking internal secrets, that's not what it's about. It's about control.

It's about having control of the public face of the team. Saban doesn't like or trust the media and keeping a close grip on it is the best way to prevent it from hurting him. It's not about wins and losses much, not directly. More about personalities and control.

At any rate, I can certainly see his side of it, but I think there is probably a middle ground. Saban might loosen up about it a little as time goes on.

There is certainly is a middle ground between keping secrets and giving fans stuff to chew on.

I'd have a lot more sympathy for Cote if he stuck to writing that it makes his and the job of the media more difficult, which it obviously does.

Complaining in the name of the fans though is a little rich; considering most journalists wouldn't give a damn about the team or its fans if they werent being paid to cover the Dolphins.

As for the fans themselves, they'll go along with whatever Saban does as long as they believe he is going to ultimately take the Dolphins to a Superbowl and win. Whilst an introductory press conference or two would have been nice, I imagine most fans are now used to the way the organisation is run and have lowered expectations of access.

Of course a losing season or two and 'In control Saban' becomes 'Foxhole Norman'. Not that it'll make a difference, all the free and easy access the media had during the Wannstedt era just helped them plunge the knife a few inches deeper when the time came.

That is a very reasonable assessment. Far superior to the blindfolded fans who agree with Saban on every measure.

Exactly, it's totally about control. Saban is a little dictator who has no savvy with the media. The best coaches understand the media and use it to their advantage. Saban is basically scared of the media so he makes all these childish overreactions like in the Senior Bowl statement.

Then he has the audacity to claim external influences have no impact on the internal function of the team. Instead of motivational books and speeches maybe he should try hypocrisy. Shunning the media is the very definition of being paranoid about external influences.

Kudos to Greg Cote. I think he goes overboard with the forced attempts at humor that don't even threaten funny, but he's smack on target this time.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with your overall point; but it should be noted that Wannstedt was utterly paranoid about the external influences, and his paranoia meant opening up and being as nice to the media as possible in the hope they'd be nicer.

Shutting down media access antagonises those covering the team. If someone was paranoid about the media and external influences, why would they take an action to anger the media and increase the likelyhood of negative articles?

GEt your Gus bashing self ready for another year of consistant lament my friend. You lost credibility with the rest of them as far as I am concerned. Your selfish ways are duly noted with this finfan, but then again, you gus bashers are very transparent anyways.

Ill take the Saban side every time!

This is an angry reporter, nothing more.

I could care less about reading meaningless soundbites from these coaches, all that matters is winning, and if Coach feels this is the best way to run a railroad...........its good with me.

Sounds like media-envy to me...Cote is still upset he doesn't have a source at the facility any longer...(His source the last few years was probably Wanny)...It doesn't bother me except during the offseason some, but then it's not something we really had before...we had nothing but rumors about great players, and then Wanny would pull some stupid move out of his hat...

Is there a link to what Greg said that pissed everyone off?

Just go to the Miami Herald and read every article the negative chump has ever written. The team finishes strong...adds two former head coaches to the staff...everyone is happy and optimistic...and this jerk still finds something to beeotch about.

Cote is a chump, I was so pissed with this last article he wrote that I emailed him this.

Mr. Cote,
I think your article concerning the "one-voice policy" is outright stupid. Media people like yourself are in many ways responsible for creating controversy were there is none. What Mr. Saban is doing seems to be working, what the fins were doing in the past wasn't. With that said, Mr. Saban should do as he pleases, and like many of the "real" fins fans out there, we dont care how he does it. We have faith in him, we are winning, and at the end of the day that is all that matters. So why dont you take your article and go hide in some cave in australia. becuase your voice does not stand for what the real fin fans believe in, if you have any doubt, you should visit some of the chat sites out there so you can see what "real fans" really think of you and your articles.
By the way, when I say "real fans" I mean that you are not, this is just a job for you, you dont pay your hard earned money to see the games. (maybe not so hard earned!). You dont pay to buy the merchandise, in fact, if tomorrow some other paper or media outlet calls you, lets say from N.Y., with a big fat offer, you will be talking about the knicks or jets. So again just be quiet and try to write more on the heats or panthers, becuase the real fin fans don't want to hear what you have to say.

Best Regards
Cote Sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:fire:
