Michael Silver continues the trend of SI.com to rank everyone related to the NFL (since they are on it, they could rank the fan forums, right?). This time is the turn of the owners and Mr. Huizenga shows up at #8.

"Huizenga was fourth in last year's rankings, and deservedly so: He's a brilliant businessman who works hard to generate revenue (some of it secured through smart stadium upgrades) and is willing and able to spend money in an attempt to build and maintain a winning team. But I can't get past the way he smiled and grinned and practically sucked up to Nick Saban as the deceitful coach -- after having denied he was interested in the Alabama job for weeks -- slithered off to Tuscaloosa"

It would be very good, except that Robert Kraft, owner of the Patsies, is #1.
:cooldude:

Huizenga is a great owner, and Bob Kraft has been either the best or the luckiest...Good list actually.

Yeah, but Jerry Jones is #2 and Dan Snyder is #5! :sidelol:

I'll agree that Snyder at 5 is pretty questionable. Jerry Jones, despite that monstrosity of a stadium he's building, actually helped that CBA deal get done.

I agree with Kinzua. Synder at 5? All Synder does is throw money at all his problems. And Silver's reasoning is ridiculous. He'll get it right eventually? I guess you can say that about any owner. "Well, he hasn't done anything to help build the franchise. In fact, all he has done is run it into the ground. But he'll get it right eventually."

These ratings seem pretty arbitrary. Also, Huizenga certainly gives the appearance of a competent owner.

I think it's really hard to make a ranking of the owners but being in the first quarter isn't that bad

I definately wouldnt put Snider at 5 and I really disagree with Panthers and Bucs at 3 and 4. I think indy should be much higher than where they are and I totally agree with the bottom barrel of the list with Ralphie, Tommy, and Mikey at the bottom. Those deserve to be where they are. I think Tommy though should be right on the bottom just because of his handling of the hurricane alone! Those three are morons!

As far as us at 8, ill agree with that. I think had he not let Saban somewhat run him (or so Wayne showed) and Wanye would have fired him first, he would have been top 5.

As much as many of you laud the NFL as being a business when you want your most hated player cut, you must remember the NFL is a business 24/7/365.

That's why Daniel Snyder is so highly regarded. He has built the Washington Redskins into the most valuable NFL franchise. He is praised for his financial moves that have developed the Redskins into the first NFL team to be worth $1 Billion.

As much as we hate the Dan Snyder's and Jerry Jones' of the world, they are a major reason the NFL has become the marketing juggernaut it is.

Sure, it's taken much from the purity of the game, but without them we wouldn't be enjoying such luxuries as NFL Sunday Ticket, going to Home Depot to buy paint in our team's official colors or ordering custom sneakers on Reebok.com designed with our favorite team's logo, colors and styling.

The NFL was a powerful product to begin with, but shrewd leveraging of the NFL brand by owners and the league have made the NFL one of the most familiar brands in all of sports. It's marketing influence is literally incredible.

Jerry Jones is building a $1B stadium... think about that.

Baseball might be America's Game, but Football has become America's Obsession. Thanks to these guys.
