SI ranks our backfield as 12th best

No, it is not a significant addition to our "backfield".

He wasn't drafted to be a running back. Moreover, if he does get involved in running plays, it would be out of the Wildcat - which does NOT make him a running back.

I don't know, I can see where you are coming from, but we are not even sure how much he will be used yet. Why would anyone other than Dolphins fans want to/expect to see his name in that list? If they did mention him, it wouldn't be anything that would change our ranking, either.

Except for the fact that on the site they are listing the quarterbacks too. Anything that happens in the backfield, IE Spread offense, QB sneaks, passes, etc. = Backfield. Not just running backs.

That's very true. I think we're really the only ones expecting great things, but a lot of announcers and scouts/talent evaluators are really keeping an eye on Miami to see how it progresses.

I'm not sure anyone thought the Wildcat would take off the way it did. People are talking about it changing the NFL in almost as significant way as the West Coast Offense. Just because it's a throw back, I think others are writing it off.

I wouldn't write off our performance against NE last year though.

The Pats have the 4th best Backfield??? The only addition is fred Taylor and he's on the backside of his career. SI needs to redo their rankings, talk about Bias......

Terrible list with no clear ranking method.

If you're ranking backfields while taking QB's into consideration . . . the QB position is more valuable and should carry greater weight . . . you'd think . . .

If I am looking at our backfield compared to last year
Ronnie Brown is a plus regaining his form form his old injury
Ricky Williams a slight minus as he is slowing down a bit with age
Patrick Cobbs a wash because he was not used in the beginning of the year, got into some fairly good action and then got banged up. We know what we have now with Cobbs but he needs to stay healthy
Chadd Penne last year will be hard to improve on and he "probably" will not based on past history so lets say its a wash. Smart guys like him tend not to get lazy but he has a injury history
Chadd Henne a plus a year experience under his belt should help but he still has not played with the lights on so is a bit of a unknown quanity
Pat White is a plus over John Beck simply because John Beck is not here implying that the coaching staff thinks they have improved this position. In reality a bit of a unknown.
FB Polite is a nice plus. Last year this position was in turmoil this guy came in mid year an performed and the coaching staff agreed and gave him a nice new contract.

Chadd Pennington is the real key here and if he plays as well as last year then I say that the combo of Brown, Polite and Cobbs makes us better. "Perhaps" Pat White in the wildcat could but that is just a projection in some fans minds so it cannot count at this stage of the game. The team is shaping up quite well just need those guards to come around to really make it work too.

Agreed that Ricky is slowing down, but on the plus side, we do have a better idea of what to expect from him unlike last year when it was unknown what he was going to give us coming off his hiatus.
In addition, although he's not known as a running qb, Pennington is sneaky mobile as I remember him picking up some nice yardage/first downs when there was no one to throw to.

the list is whack... but as a RB tandem ranking i guess we'd b 8-12....
I'm thinking it's possible we could accumulate a top 5 total rushing attack however.

My 2nd favorite HB tandem is Williams and Stewart, best in the NFL.

So they figure in QBs, RBs, and FBs, as well as Offensive lines and receiving targets.

Basically they are ranking offenses...

What kills me is that they say we have no new additions to our backfield. I'm sorry, but didn't we just draft Pat White? Isn't that a pretty significant addition, especially with the Wildcat?

Give me a break.

What do you expect for a guy that hasn't played a down in NFL. Yeah we drafted White but he has to do something significant in order to be counted as part of the backfield. Once preseason or regular season starts look at it then. We could be better or it could be worse. Although I can't imagine us getting worse.

The Patriots #4? That’s where that story lost me.

I got two words for SI- Lousaka Polite. Dude is money.

Just expect the Pats lovefest to continue. Listening to NFL radio on the way to work yesterday. Randy Cross was interviewing Peter King and the entire 30min segment that I heard was ENTIRELY about Brady at the OTA's and the Pats. They act as if Joey Galloway is the missing piece, evn though he's going to be 38 and hasn't been able to stay healthy.
It's almost as if there are no other teams in the AFC east.
Man, I hope they fail miserably this yr. We'll see how good BB is without Pioli picking players.
Maybe he returns to his old Cleveland form.:hump:
